Sons of Italy makes donation to the Bridge
Members of the Sons of Italy Roma Madre Lodge 1342 of Sayre presented the Bridge of Penn-York Valley Churches with a monetary donation on Tuesday.
The lodge was able to give a $3,329 check to the Bridge through its St. Anthony Fund, the organization's charitable arm, said the group's recording secretary, Mary Mastrantuono.
The Sons of Italy's St. Anthony Fund regularly donates to social service organizations in the Valley such as The Bridge, according to information from the Sons of Italy. The charity program also helps support children's programs, community groups and animal shelters in the area.
The lodge's donation will go toward the Bridge's flood relief fund, according to Dick Friend, president of the Bridge.
The Bridge, a non-profit, volunteer-staffed organization representing 36 member churches, has raised over $255,000 toward providing assistance to flood-affected families living in the Athens, Sayre and Waverly school districts since September's flooding. Donations of money, goods and services have been raised through donations from businesses, individuals, organizations such as the Sons of Italy, and events like the Valley Rally fundraiser held in Sayre in September.
In addition to financial assistance, the Bridge has also provided flood survivors with clothes, household items, furniture and appliances, transportation assistance and the use of flood cleanup supplies.
