A March 6 fire in Towanda Township, which damaged a mobile home that was being used by Chesapeake Energy Corp., began accidentally, state police said.

A state police fire marshal has determined that the fire was "accidental" and that its cause was "electrical in nature," according to a press release from the state police at Towanda.

The mobile home, which is owned by Hoppe's Construction of Ada, Okla., was being used by Chesapeake Energy as an office.

Hoppe's rents out trailers to energy development companies, which use them as offices and residences.

No one was inside the trailer when the fire broke out.

The fire at the trailer, which is located just off U.S. Route 220, broke out around 6:30 p.m.

Two firefighters from Towanda and Wysox who first arrived at the scene were able to contain the blaze with fire extinguishers, until the rest of the emergency crews showed up.

No flames appeared outside of the structure during the incident, although smoke was observed coming out of the building. Firefighters broke through one of the walls to get at the fire, and also poured water into the structure.

I don't know the status of this particular trailer, but one of the glitches in our state Uniform Inspection law which is aimed at preventing fires and other disasters is that residential and office trailers which are temporary up to a certain length of time are exempt from all the inspection processes which are normally entailed in setting up a trailer. So while our residents desiring homes to live in must pay to get all sorts of inspections done via Code Inspections, Inc. or other contracted third party inspectors, depending where you live, these gas company residential and office trailers are usually exempt from these processes. Hopefully the gas companies will install them properly so that our fire companies don't have to waste valuable resources in responding to fires that result from inadequate facilities allowed under the law.
