Tea party planned at Spalding Memorial Library

As part of the Big Read program, the Spalding Memorial Library will be hosting a children's tea party from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the library, according to a press release.

The release continues:

The Sayre Public Library is coordinating the Big Read program in the Valley and is focusing the program on "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck and the Great Depression in general.

The theme of the tea party is Kit Kittredge, one of the American Girls. The Kit books are set in 1934 and are about growing up during America's Great Depression. What was it like to be a girl in that era? The tea party will take the children back to that time period.

If you have children elementary school age or know children of that age, bring them to the library for a step back in time tea party. The party is open and free to all children.

The library is located at 724 S. Main St., Athens. For more information, call the library at (570) 888-7117.

Wow, I'm glad I read more than just the headline. I was ready to get my construction paper and crayons and tea bags around to make a sign. I wasn't sure what I was going to put on the sign because I hadn't been told by Glen. Imagine my embarrassment if I had shown up?
