Ten positions cut at Cargill plant
The Cargill Meat Solutions plant in Wyalusing has eliminated ten positions as part of a worldwide reduction in the company's workforce.
The cuts amount to about one percent of the Wyalusing plant's 1,100-person workforce, said Cargill Meat Solutions spokesman Mike Martin. The eliminated positions come from a variety of departments within the plant, Martin said.
"The Cargill team is very close, and losing anyone under any circumstance is difficult for everyone," said plant spokeswoman Sandy Voda.
Cargill officials announced earlier this month that 2,000 positions will be eliminated globally within the next six months across the company's 75 business units. The move will reduce staff by about 1.5 percent, according to a release from Cargill.
The reduction is in response to recommendations from Cargill's business units and are not the result of a uniform cut or company-wide percentage mandate, according to the release. The reduction is meant to simplify work processes while cutting expenses by efficiently allocating resources.
"These are difficult decisions, but are necessary to better position the company for continued growth," said Mike Fernandez, corporate vice president of Cargill Corporate Affairs, in the release.
The company will provide displaced employees with severance and outplacement support, according to the release.
