TIOGA CENTER, N.Y. - The 2010-2011 school year got off to a good start in the Tioga Central School District, according to the district superintendent.
"Things looked like they were running pretty smoothly," Superintendent Scot Taylor said.
There where no major transportation glitches on the first day, Taylor said.
Enrollment in the district is about the same as last year, he said, with around 1,125 students. Taylor said an exact enrollment number won't be available for a few days, as the number of students usually fluctuates somewhat in the first few days of classes.
The district's buildings "look great," he said, after a renovation project that mostly concluded last year. There are still some infrastructure issues to address in the coming years, he said, such as lighting and some other mechanical components, and the process to complete that work is starting.
In response to changes in New York State testing standards, the district made some staff changes this year, Taylor said. A part-time special education position became a full-time position, with added responsibilities of academic intervention for all students in the district. The intervention will help students whose tests scores fall below the new state standards, he said.
