Help raise funds to bring Snowzilla to Owego's Lights on the River Festival
On Saturday, Nov. 10, run or walk the Snowzilla 5K to kick off the Holiday Season. This race coincides with Owego's Holiday Showcase day. Help raise funds to bring big, fun attractions to Owego for the Lights on the River Festival planned for Dec. 7.
Coming this year are a Giant Snowglobe and an ice skating rink at the Gateway Community Park Deck. Organizers are also planning ahead to bring the Snowzilla Toboggan Slide to Owego in 2013. This inflatable toboggan slide is for adults and children and simulates a slide down a snow covered hill. It's a massive attraction and riders board a snow tube for the ride to the bottom of the slide. There is only one Snowzilla attraction in the United States and it's coming to Owego for the Lights on the River Festival, in 2013.
The Snowzilla 5K will begin on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. There will also be a Kids' 1.6K Run at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is $15 and Kids' Run is $7. Both runs will be competitive and prizes will be awarded in age/gender categories. All runners will receive a free embroidered knit hat, bottles of water, a free ride coupon for one of the attractions, and a variety of refreshments after the race.
Registration and all the information you need can be found at www.snowzilla5k.com, or call (607) 687-7440.
Price Chopper to hold second annual fall festival
Price Chopper will host their second annual fall festival with a theme of Family, Fun and Fitness. The event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 25 from 4:50 to 7 p.m. in the Price Chopper parking lot in Owego, N.Y. As with last year, the Continuous Improvement Team will provide a costume parade, treats for the children, as well as coffee and other treats for the adults.
The Price Chopper Wellness Team will have fishing for apples and line dancing with Vicki, and other fun activities. WHWK will be broadcasting live. There will be samples and tastings from various vendor partners.
Price Chopper invites area non profits, civic organizations and local businesses to join them in their parking lot for the festivities. There are only two requests - one is that participants have a treat for those visiting their booth, and that any fundraising be "donations" instead of sales.
Groups already lined up include the American Cancer Society Relay for Life who will be doing a dime drive, Mary Kay raffle and signing up teams for the 2013 relay event; Mother's & Babies Perinatal Network will be giving out tips on healthy eating and stress relief; and the Open Door Mission and a fire truck also plan on being there.
