A three-year-old boy was recently pronounced dead at Robert Packer Hospital, the victim of a drowning.

According to information provided by state police, Maverik Charles Nye, 3, of Columbia Cross Roads, was pronounced dead at the hospital around 9 p.m. on March 7.

Earlier that day, police continued, the boy was observed on the lawn of his residence, playing with the family dog. He was observed chasing the dog through the yard, and within minutes was missing, police continued.

A search of the area was conducted by family members, police said, which resulted in the boy being discovered in an nearby above ground swimming pool around 5:30 p.m.

Lifesaving efforts were started immediately by family members, which were later taken over by responding emergency personnel. The boy was later transported via helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital, where further lifesaving attempts were made, but proved unsuccessful.

The boy's death was ruled accidental, police said, and the cause of death was listed as fresh water drowning.
