TROY - The Troy Rotary Club on Thursday honored the cream of the crop in the Troy Area School District Class of 2013.

The Top Ten members of the Class were honored at the Rotary Club's annual awards ceremony at the Troy Vets Club in Troy.

The Top Ten are Kelly Bridgham, Chris Westerfer, Olivia Morse, Samantha Morse, Elijah Laue, Joy Mack, Kendra Lathrop, Shane Miller, Vanessa Benson, and Casey Norton. Each received a medal, a certificate, and a check.

Here is some information about the Top Ten members of the Class of 2013, provided by the school district:

- Kelly Bridgham - Recipient of the Scholastic Excellence Award, Presidential Academic Fitness Award, Mark H. Kingsley Memorial Award, Joseph R. Every Scholarship, Guthrie Health Profession Scholarship. She plans to attend Bucknell University and major in Biology.

- Chris Westerfer - Recipient of American Legion #49 School Award, Presidential Academic Fitness Award, Raymond and Mildred Bradley Altruistic Award, Troy Community Hospital Auxiliary Award, Jim and Vivian Hall Scholarship. He plans to attend Bloomsburg University and major in Nursing.

- Olivia Morse - Recipient of Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, Choral Music Award, Brian Dunbar Memorial Award, Presidential Academic Fitness Award, Belle F. Powers Scholarship, Jim and Vivian Hall Scholarship, Julia McKerrow Scholarship. She plans to attend Houghton College and major in Medical Technology.

- Samantha Morse - Recipient of John Philip Sousa Award, Thursday Study Club Award, Frances Elsbree Award, American Legion No. 49 Award, Presidential Academic Fitness Award, Hubbard Endowment Scholarship. She plans to attend Messiah College and major in Accounting.

- Elijah Laue - Recipient of Presidential Academic Fitness Award, Brian R. Shaner Memorial Scholarship, Joseph R. Every Scholarship, Jim and Vivian Hall Scholarship. He plans to attend Lehigh University and major in Bioengineering.

- Joy Mack - Recipient of Good Citizenship Award, Robert Buchler Memorial Award, Canton Women of the Moose Award, Lifetouch Scholarship. She plans on attending Misericordia University and major in Business Management.

- Kendra Lathrop - Recipient of Daniel F. Pomeroy Award, Good Citizenship Award. She plans on attending George Mason University and major in Communications.

- Shane Miller - Recipient of TAEA/ESPA Scholarship, Bradford County Chapter DAR Good Citizen Award, Robert J. Merrill Memorial Award, Perfect Attendance. He plans on attending Lock Haven University and major in PE/Athletic Training.

- Vanessa Benson - Recipient of Presidential Academic Fitness Award, Hubbard Endowment Scholarship, AES Armenia Mountain Wind Energy Project Scholarship. She plans on attending Misericordia University and major in Biology.

- Casey Norton - Recipient of Presidential Academic Fitness Award. She plans on attending Shippensburg University. She is undecided on a major.

In addition, Mack and Darton Harwick were honored with the 2012-13 Service Above Self Award, which was established by the Troy Rotary Club to "recognize and reward a graduating senior for outstanding volunteer service in the community."

According to the Rotary Club, applicants had to meet a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service, as well as explain why service is important to them and to the local community.

A description in the awards ceremony program notes that Harwick helped with a Red Cross Blood Drive, a Blue Star Memorial Project, Lions Club Food Drive, 4-H, cards for the troops, and other community endeavors. He plans on attending Slippery Rock University to study Environmental Geoscience.

Mack, meanwhile, helped with a canned food drive, Relay for Life, school orientation program, and community service projects, the description notes.
