The December First Friday event, which takes place on Friday, Dec. 4, in downtown Towanda, won't just be held in the evening.

"It will be an all-day celebration of fun!" the First Friday committee said in a press release that it issued this week.

The Towanda merchants will hold their Holiday Open House on Friday, Dec. 4, with bargains and one-day-only specials for shoppers from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to a press release from the committee.

"Don't miss their in-store promotions, drawings and giveaways," the press release states.

On Friday, Dec. 4, the downtown Towanda community will celebrate with baked goods and hot chocolate, seasonal foods, music, an all-day wrapping station in the 500 block of Main Street, and other fun activities leading up to the arrival of Santa Claus and the holiday parade, the release said.

Santa will arrive from the North Pole by train at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, at the Washington Street Station in downtown Towanda.

St. Nick will then be escorted to the Progress Building at One Progress Plaza in downtown Towanda, where he will join the Santa Claus Parade.

The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Progress Building and travels down Main Street to the Bradford County Courthouse.

The Towanda Area High School Band, the St. Agnes School carolers, and the Endless Mountains School of Dance students will be among those marching in the parade to escort the jolly guest of honor. Various fire and emergency vehicles will also be in the parade.

After the parade, Santa will visit with the county's children on the steps of the courthouse. Starting at 7:30 p.m., Mrs. Santa Claus will be at the Costume Capers & Creations store at 513 Main St. to tell holiday stories.

Other attractions during the evening at the December First Friday are: horse and buggy rides, carolers, and possibly, some of Santa's elves will be seen here and there throughout the town.

For more information or to join in the parade, contact Central Bradford Chamber of Commerce Administrator Sharon Kaminsky at (570) 268-2787 or e-mail her at sharon@bcrac.org.

The entry forms for the Merchants' Christmas Gift Basket will be offered by participating merchants during First Friday with the drawing to be held at 8:45 p.m. on Friday at the Dry Goods Plus store at 501 Main St.
