On Saturday, Dec. 12, The Railhouse in Waverly, N.Y. will host the 2009 Tioga County Toys for Tots toy drive concert event. Showtime is 7 p.m.
The event will feature five outstanding performances by local rockers 605, prolific song-writer Chris Merkley (whose material was featured in HBO's Generation: Kill), honkey-tonk/country-rockers Future Farmers of America (Bovina Records), country-rockers Pispouré (pronounced "peace-poor-ay," also with Bovina Records), and the southern-rock/funk stylings of Altered Walter.
Admission will be the donation of a new, unwrapped toy, in its packaging, or a cash donation.
The event is being coordinated by USMC Staff Sergeant Nicholas Hampton who heads the Tioga County Toys for Tots effort. Citadel radio Binghamton is the event's media sponsor, with stations "Wild 104," WHWK "The Hawk," and WAAL "The Whale" leading the charge. Citadel's promotional efforts are made possible, in part, by a partnership with Price Chopper with regards to the regional Toys for Tots campaign.
Drop boxes for toys are already in place at the Railhouse. Residents are asked to donate new, unwrapped toys, in their packaging, at any time during business hours. Event coordinators ask for the community's generosity this year more than ever as the troubled economy has left hundreds of Tioga County parents unable to provide their children with holiday toys this season.
