Troy Lions Club has biggest Christmas basket project ever

This year, the Troy Lions Club was able to deliver 130 Christmas baskets to less fortunate families in our area, with presents for about 250 kids. Each family received a 5-pound ham, 10 pounds of potatoes, canned vegetables, fruit, soups, and other food products. The kids received four to five wrapped presents each.

The Lions Club would like to thank the companies, organizations, and individuals who donated time, money and gifts. Businesses and organizations who donated money for the project include Talisman Energy, $1,500; Troy Rotary Club, $500; Wyoming Casing Service, $500; Troy Chamber of Commerce, $300; Hoover Hardware, $250; Sons of the Legion, $200; and the many individuals who donated money.

The Lions Club would also like to thank the following businesses who sold snowmen: First Citizens National Bank, Citizens and Northern Bank, Chemung Canal Trust Company, Terrace Lanes, Anthony's Bar and Grill, Troy Vets Club, and the Tamarack Tavern.

They would also like to thank the Troy Area Schools for the food drive, the Troy Fire Company for allowing them to use their social hall to assemble the baskets, Tyoga Container for donating the boxes, the Troy Girl Scouts and Troy High School National Honor Society for helping wrap the presents, St. John's Catholic Church, Dollar General for collecting gifts, and other community members who helped sort, wrap, and deliver the baskets.

They would also like to thank the many lions and their spouses who put in many hours working on this project. This year was their 42nd year of doing this project and they spend over $7,000. Thanks to everyone involved, this made a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for Many families in our area.
