TROY - The Troy Area School District has made some busing changes to address the traffic congestion in Troy Borough.

And Sue Jackson, the district's transportation director, said she thinks the measures are working.

First, she said, the district has take action regarding the number of buses that go to W.R. Croman Elementary School, located in the borough, in the afternoon.

According to Jackson:

In the past, the district transferred elementary students from Croman - including those who were to ride in buses going south down Route 14 - to the middle school and high school so they could transfer to their home buses.

Now, the district only transfers elementary students from Croman who are going east and north to the middle school and high school to transfer to their home buses.

The students who are headed southbound aren't transferred but rather picked up by the southbound buses at Croman. These students live in such places as Alba and Granville Township.

Last year, eight buses loaded at Croman in the afternoon and then went to the middle school/high school. This year, the number has been cut down to five.

Also, the district added two additional buses at Troy Elementary Center East in East Troy that don't come into the borough.

Jackson said it's working so far in helping to alleviate traffic congestion in the borough.

"Anytime you eliminate buses going into that traffic, I would say you're going to be eliminating traffic congestion."
