TROY - Troy Borough will be selling its effluent water.

Following a formal request for information from The Daily Review, borough manager Dan Close provided details about the arrangement.

Close said he recently signed an agreement with Mercuria Energy America, Inc., a Delaware Corporation having offices in Houston, Texas, giving them the exclusive right to purchase effluent water from Troy Borough's waste water treatment plant.

"Mercuria will sell the water to third parties for the purpose of reuse," Close said.

Information was not provided on the identity of the third parties or what the reuse involves, nor how much money was expected to be generated by the deal.

In the agreement, Mercuria is responsible for any delivery improvements needed at the Troy facility, Close added.

Mercuria is also responsible for any and all agency permitting that may be required to sell the effluent to a third party. Mercuria will retain a portion of the profits from any sale and the rest will be passed through to the Troy Borough.
