Emergency responders reported fatalities in two Bradford County motor vehicle accidents Sunday evening that occurred within an hour of one another.

State police and the Canton Fire Department were called at about 5 p.m. Sunday to a motor vehicle accident on Sunfish Pond Road in Leroy Township, about two and a half miles north of its intersection with Southside Road.

Emergency responders at the scene confirmed one fatality. Sunfish Pond Road was closed in both Leroy and Franklindale into Sunday night.

A second motor vehicle accident was reported at about 5:40 p.m. on Route 220 in Ulster Township. The accident occurred about a third of a mile north of Route 220's intersection with Bridge Street, near Seaboard International.

Along with state police, the Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Association and North Towanda Fire Department's rescue unit responded to the accident scene.

A black four-door sedan at the scene had a crushed front end, with shattered glass covering the roadway.

The accident closed Route 220 north of the Bridge Street intersection, with traffic being detoured onto Sheshequin, Milan-East Smithfield and Ulster-East Smithfield roads.

Emergency responders anticipated having Route 220 reopened by midnight, according to a release from the PA State Department of Transportation.

State troopers remained at the scene of both accidents as of press time Sunday, according to state police.
