Two state troopers were treated for minor injuries at Memorial Hospital in Towanda after they were assaulted by a suspect in a retail theft investigation, state police said.

According to police, Steven Eugene Arnold, 43, and Dixie Lee Arnold, 49, both of Dushore, had stolen a bottle of Jim Beam liquor from the Dushore wine and spirits store at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.

One-and-a-half hours later, state troopers Scott Renfer and Edward O'Haire arrived at the Arnold residence to interview Steven Arnold about the shoplifting incident.

While conducting their investigation, Steven Arnold assaulted both of the troopers, who were eventually able to take him into custody.

Steven Arnold suffered minor injuries in the incident, and his injuries were tended to by the Laporte Volunteer Fire Department ambulance crew.

As a result of his assault on the two state troopers, Steven Arnold was charged with aggravated assault.

Steven Arnold was arraigned on the aggravated assault charge and related charges and then sent to the Wyoming County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Steven and Dixie Lee Arnold were also cited for retail theft in connection with theft of the bottle of Jim Beam.
