Engine Company No. 1 of the Sayre Fire Department has announced the date for this year's Valley Fireworks Show.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 30 at Riverfront Park in Sayre. It will mark the 22nd year the fire company has hosted the show, which has grown to become the largest display in the Twin Tiers.

Organizers are planning a full evening of fun with games of chance and food concessions opening at 5 p.m. Then, starting at 6 p.m., Dr. Strangelove, one of the top bands in the area, will rock the house leading up to the big show.

At 10 p.m., get ready for "the granddaddy of them all" as Engine Company No. 1 presents the largest fireworks fun this area has ever seen in celebrating the 236th birthday of the red, white and blue. The monumental display will include many new "special effects" shells that never have been seen in this area and will light up the sky over the Valley. A musically choreographed soundtrack will accompany the show and be broadcast live on WAVR 102.1 FM.

To top it all off, organizers are promising a grand finale that will last a full 5 minutes with deafening sound and eye popping fury for all those in attendance. Though the fireworks can be viewed from various points across the Valley as the nighttime sky comes alive, the full effect is best viewed from within Riverfront Park, where every seat will be a ringside view. The ground shakes and the air vibrates as the thunderous roar of the fireworks rolls overhead. Engine Company No. 1 officials urge everyone to stay until the finale is completely over. You will not be disappointed.

Admission to the show will be the same as last year, $5 for an entire carload. Walk-in admission is $2 each. This is an opportunity to take the entire family to a fantastic event at a very small price.

The small admission price, sparkler and novelty sales, and donations from area businesses and individuals fund the show. Anyone wishing to make a donation can send it to Engine Co. No. 1, P.O. Box 221, Sayre, PA 18840.

You can keep track of all the fireworks developments and view the participating sponsors by visiting the Valley Fireworks Show section of the Engine Company No. 1 web site at www.enginecono1.com.
