'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' at Sayre Theatre

The community is invited to attend a free movie presentation of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" at the Sayre Theatre, according to a press release from the Sayre Public Library.

The release continues:

It will be held at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8. The animated film is based on the original book written in 1939 when the country was in the midst of the Great Depression. While John Steinbeck was writing the classic "The Grapes of Wrath," Robert May was writing another classic, "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer."

Robert May, a copy writer with Montgomery Ward Company, wrote the story as a Christmas holiday promotion as well as for his young daughter. The book was a hit. Montgomery Ward distributed over 2.4 million copies in 1939. "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" was transformed into a holiday classic in the 1960s. This movie has entertained millions with the world-renowned musical score from Johnny Marks and the voice talent of the legendary performer Burl Ives.

The free movie provides an opportunity for children and adults to see the movie on the large screen. This program is in conjunction with The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. All attendees will receive prizes and giveaways related to reading.

For more information on this event, please contact Sayre Public Library at (570) 888-2256.
