Ulster Township reorganizes

ULSTER TWP. - The Ulster Township Supervisors met Monday for an organizational meeting.

J. Jeffery Lenox took his seat on the board of supervisors after winning election in November. Lenox said he has served as a supervisor in the past, and has been acting on the board since his appointment in February 2009 to fill a vacancy on the board created by the death of former supervisor Don Tuttle. Lenox will also serve as vice chairman on the board of supervisors.

Supervisor Lewis Prough was reappointed as the chairman of the board of supervisors, and will also continue in his role as the township's superintendent of roads and streets and road foreman.

Also at the meeting, Prough said that he had received word from PennDOT about a project to update handicap access at crosswalks along U.S. 220 in the township. The work would be completed by PennDOT at no cost to the township, he said, and would bring the crosswalks up to current code.

Prough said PennDOT had also discussed a possible project to replace a bridge on Second Street in Ulster. The supervisors will attend a meeting with PennDOT to discuss the project.

The Athens Borough Council met to reorganize on Monday night.

Todd Campbell was elected to continue serving as council president, while William Cotton was elected as council vice president, Whyte said.
