KIRBY, Vt. (AP) — An 11-year-old Vermont girl is undergoing a series of rabies shots after she was attacked by a hissing raccoon in Kirby.

Irie Campbell says she was playing with friends outside the friend's home on Sunday along with her brother when the raccoon appeared out of nowhere.

Irie tells WCAX-TV (http://bit.ly/14vUHcr ) she suffered six bites and got four stitches, but she managed to scare the raccoon off with the help of her friend and brother.

Irie's father Derek Campbell says he's proud that his daughter is so tough.

While the raccoon was never found, it is assumed the animal was infected with rabies so Irie is getting anti-rabies shots.
