Waverly Central School District superintendent Joseph Yelich will leave the area after recently accepting a position with another district.

Yelich was appointed Tuesday to serve as superintendent of the Oneonta Central School District, according to a statement from the Waverly Central School District board of education.

Under his new three-year contract, Yelich will receive a salary of $150,000 per year. At Waverly, he earned $135,000 per year plus approximately $45,000 in benefits, according to district budget information.

Yelich became superintendent of the Waverly district prior to the 2011-12 school year following a tenure as a high school principal in Jamestown, N.Y.

The school board will immediately begin the search for a new leader with assistance from the local Board of Cooperative Educational Services, according to the board's statement.
