Troy issues reminders

Troy Police Chief Kyle Wisel has issued several reminders.

"In the past, the holiday season has been a time of year where criminals take advantage of unlocked vehicles where valuables such as gifts and money are left inside," he said in a news release. "Areas of concern include public and private parking lots, parking spaces, and private drives. It may only take a brief moment for someone to become a victim of theft without taking some simple precautions. Citizens are reminded to lock their car doors and take valuables with them to a secure location."

In addition, Wisel said that Troy Borough residents, businesses, and property owners are reminded of their responsibility to remove snow and ice from sidewalks in front or along their property that are adjacent to any of the streets within the borough after a storm event. The punishment for neglecting the requirements of the ordinance may result in a fine of $25, plus additional costs or imprisonment.

Residents and property owners are encouraged to comply in order to make it safe for all pedestrians in the community. Questions or concerns may be directed to Troy Borough Manager Dan Close at (570) 297-2966 or Wisel at (570) 297-2423.

Wisel also noted that Troy Police have been receiving increased complaints where parked vehicles are being struck by passing traffic.

"Motorists parking in the downtown borough parking spaces along Canton and Main streets are encouraged to park as nearly as practical to the curb, especially during heavy traffic periods. It is particularly important to park completely within the space due to the increased large commercial truck loads using routes 6 and 14.

"The Troy Police Department wishes safe holiday travels ... Please buckle-up and if you drink, use a designated driver."
