Western Bradford Notebook: Lucky lotto scratcher
TROY - It was a lucky morning Wednesday for one man at the Pump 'n Pantry in Troy.
He's now $100,000 richer.
Of course, that's before taxes.
But he will definitely have some extra cash.
That's because he was a big lottery winner.
Roger Riddle, the store manager, said the man who won wishes to remain anonymous. But Riddle did share some details.
The ticket, he said, was an "Emerald 8s" scratch-off ticket and the man bought it at 6:30 a.m.
Riddle reported that he was very excited.
"I was excited for him too," he said. "He's a pretty good guy."
Certainly, it wasn't your typical day at the lottery counter.
"He came to me and said he won big," Riddle said. "I was thinking it was a couple hundred bucks, and he said $100,000 and I said, 'wow.'"
Riddle said the man, a "local guy," scratched off the ticket in his vehicle.
"He came out of his vehicle and his hands were shaking," he said.
According to Riddle, it's the top prize in the scratch-off game.
The Pennsylvania Lottery Web site notes that "RUBY 7s" and "EMERALD 8s" is a $5 game with 20 top prizes of $100,000 cash.
The last time the store had a big winner was about a year ago when someone won $10,000 on a scratch-off ticket, Riddle said.
It didn't take long for news about the win to spread.
"People have been stopping in and asking about it," Riddle said.
For the winner, meanwhile, it was a big moment.
"I asked him, 'What would that mean for you?'" Riddle said. "And he said it would change his life."
