Wyalusing jewelry party to aid Women at Risk
Local shoppers will soon have the chance to buy some gifts and help a charity at the same time.
A Women at Risk International jewelry party will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Wyalusing American Legion. Shoppers may visit the hall anytime during those hours to buy jewelry and other accessories.
W.A.R. is a Christian organization that works to free women from human trafficking, including sexual slavery. According to a W.A.R. brochure:
"The passion of Women at Risk International is to give voice to the silenced cries of women of the world who flow through our projects, creating circles of protection in the name of Christ. We offer a safe place to turn crisis into a story of hope by wrapping arms of love and whispering the message of worth."
W.A.R. does its work, according to the brochure, through safe houses, women's centers that teach job skills, sponsorships to provide training and education, economic development, an emergency 911 fund, humanitarian missions and a research institute.
