After last year's dampness that pervaded fair week, Corey Susz breathed a sigh of relief on Sunday as he learned Tropical Storm Isaac was turning westward.

The third-year president of the Kiwanis Wyoming County Fair wanted no part of last year's flooding including the distractions that kept a lot of people away from just having fun.

"We've got some great entertainment lined up and for about the price of a movie admission you can just plain have fun here," Susz said.

Although the High Flying Pages trapeze act wasn't yet set up, Susz said he knew they would be a great draw as well as the people who do the acrobatic riding on horseback.

And did he mention that country music sensation Colt Ford was bringing his Declaration of Independence Tour to headline the lineup of entertainment at the 27th Annual Kiwanis Wyoming County Fair, to open today and run through Labor Day Monday, Sept. 3?

Ford's country music show would be Saturday night, and on the other end of the music spectrum, but nearly as big a hit with younger set is Billboard's chart-topping teen band New Hollow on Sunday.

Other entertainment spread throughout the six-day event this year includes a number of musical acts along with the Kids Buck Game Show.

Once again this year, the midway will feature spectacular rides from Jim Houghton Enterprises. There will be rides for every age group, such as a merry-go-round, Round-Up, The Himalaya, Pharaoh's Fury and more.

Also, several new vendors will make their debut at the 2012 fair, as well as many of the well-known food, craft, educational and informational vendors.

The fair ran from 1857 to 1942, and then was closed from 1943-85. It reopened in 1986, and this year will mark the 27th annual renewal.

The fair opens each day at 8 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m. Vendor food stands open at 11 a.m. daily

Fair tickets at the gate are $10 for a daily pass, and children under two years old get in free. Ticket price includes admission, parking and rides all day.

Tickets for the 'Colt Ford' or 'New Hollow' can be purchased on the website, or by calling 836-9992.
