WYSOX - Traffic was restricted to one lane Wednesday afternoon on Route 6 in Wysox as a result of two motor vehicle accidents involving a total of seven vehicles.

The first accident at 5:43 p.m. involved five cars in the westbound lane of Route 6, near County Office Supply, according to Wysox Fire Chief Chad Benjamin. The accident occurred as the lead car stopped and four vehicles behind it rear-ended each other in a "domino effect," he said. A total of five people involved in the five-car accident were transported by Memorial EMS and Wysox EMS to local hospitals for treatment of injuries of unknown severity.

The second crash occurred within a minute or two of the first accident in the eastbound lane of Route 6, he said, and involved two vehicles. The drivers of the vehicles in the second accident exchanged information and left the scene, he said. Benjamin was unsure of what caused the second accident.

Traffic on Route 6 was restricted to one lane for the approximately one hour it took emergency crews to clean up the scene, Benjamin said, and traffic was detoured around the accident scene onto Leisure Drive.

The Wysox Fire Company, Memorial and Wysox EMS, state police and various towing services responded to the scene, Benjamin said.
