A question for Mr. Obama
EDITOR: America's 1,300-plus mile border with Mexico has long been a subject of concern. There's a major drug war on-going and the potential for an open avenue to terrorists clearly exists.
There have been significant border incidents, For example: March 2003, armed soldiers came across the border into the United States; Aug. 2009, the Mexican Army briefly took control of border customs - ultimately about 1,100 U.S. Border Agents were fired; and Aug. 2009, Mexican gang MS-13 smuggles Muslim terrorists into the country.
For the security and safety of Americans, there are abundant reasons to take special care of this border. The question: what's Mr. Obama doing at this border?
- The Federal-Local Government memorandum of agreement on illegal immigrant - 287(g) - was weakened under political pressure from Latino groups;
- FEDs order Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff to release illegal aliens - 287(g) - under political pressure from Latino groups;
- FEDs terminate Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff's authority to pursue illegals;
- Texas sends Texas Rangers to border since Mr. Obama won't secure it;
- Obama cuts Mexican-American Border Patrol Agency by 384 agents for 2010;
- There's a major push by Democrats for illegal coverage under Obamacare, with political pressure from Latino groups;
The question: Mr. Obama, are you opening our southern border?

Stirring the pot
EDITOR: May I take a moment of your time, especially if you live in Ridgebury township. It appears that there are some so-called concerned citizens that are spreading false predictions about one of the candidates running for township supervisor. They are picking issues out of the hat that has people stirred up about the future of this community. When the words zoning, sewer and comprehensive are falsely portrayed as the hidden agenda of this candidate, people get concerned that maybe this candidate will be in favor of these and the township would suffer. It is not even being considered by either party to try to enact an ordinance to incorporate zoning, a community sewer system or a comprehensive plan that the majority of the residents would not want. It would be a good move for anyone who will be voting on Nov. 3 to ask each candidate in person or on the phone what their agenda really is and not only listen to the other side for untrue facts. We all have a right to vote and that vote should be carried out only when the voter knows the truth so that a wise decision can be made. The name of the candidate need not be mentioned here because most residents already know who the subject is.

October is School Bus Safety Month
EDITOR: On Oct. 23, 2003, our lives were forever changed when (a Dushore woman) failed to stop for the school bus and hit my son David Alvoid. Although it has been six years it feels like yesterday. It is a day I will never forget.
So as the day nears I would like to remind everyone about school bus safety and the rules of the School Bus Laws.
The state's school bus stopping law requires motor vehicles to stop in either direction whenever they approach a school bus and must wait until the red lights have stopped flashing, the stop arm has been withdrawn, and all children have reached a place of safety.
Motorists must stop when they are behind a school bus, meeting the bus or approaching an intersection where a bus is stopped. If physical barriers such as grassy medians, guide rails or concrete median barriers separate oncoming traffic from the bus.
When in doubt stop!

We must do better towards our children. Thank you for reminding us.
Illegal immigrants enter via Canada all the time. Just drive across the border, and don't go home. Drugs, terrorists, etc, they can come in via plane, boats, on trains, in cars. Lets not get silly thinking that if we never allow another Mexican into our country it will be safe. Those who attacked on 9/11 were not Mexican, and they were all here legally. No illegal immigrant from any nation is included under any of the proposed health care bills. Of course, emergency room care is offered to anyone, and they will be billed at the full, uninsured price. So, lets drop that old chestnut as well. Education, should be available to all who seek it. Our world is better served by educated, thinking individuals, regardless of their nation of birth. The President can not do everything. In fact, on one hand those who would oppose heath care reform, screaming " we don't want the government interfering with our lives." are the same ones who would use all our precious resources guarding a border, which can not be secured. Give us your tired, and poor, your teeming masses yearning to breath free..unless they are brown, and speak English with an accent. If indeed, we took the time to care for one another, all the other issues would be resolved.
Of all the recent terrorist attacks, going back even to Pearl Harbor, none came from Mexico. Drugs..legalize them, and tax the heck out of them, and provide treatment. Simple and it sure would take the incentive out of the cartels.
