Wysox native Lori Kingsley, 43, competed in Melbourne, Fla. on Sunday, Feb. 7. The United States of America Track and Field Association hosted the event to find out who were the fastest men and women in America (over age 40) at the 13.1 mile distance. Kingsley topped the field placing first with a time of 1:20:32. Second place was 41 year old Marybeth Reader from Bloomfield Missouri with a time of 1:21:54. Kingsley pocketed the $1,000 first prize.

When the District 9 Pennsylvania Trappers Association Coyote Hunt came to town last weekend, it was a big deal for U.S. Department of Agriculture Disease Biologist Kyle Van Why.
Forget the lure of hunting an elusive wild dog.
Van Why is more interested in hunting through the animals' innards.
He's a microbe hunter in his second year of spending time in Tunkhannock, this year testing for the disease Tularemia, which is a bacterial infection that affects coyotes.

The Mansfield University baseball team was ranked sixth in the 2010 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division poll released by the PSAC office.
Mansfield was one of three teams in the PSAC East to receive at least one first-place vote. Kutztown and West Chester, which both received three first-place votes, are picked to finish first and second.
"We may only return three position starters from last season," said head coach Harry Hillson. "But I think we're going to surprise a lot of people. We have 17 new guys on the team this season and we're a lot deeper at almost every position."

TIOGA CENTER. N.Y. - The first time Kari Walkley took up the game of field hockey she was in sixth grade.
In her first tournament, former Tioga coach Margo Martin saw her play and knew right then that one day she would be a Division I athlete.
By the time Walkley was a freshman, she had researched all the top schools in the country, and her mind was set.
Four years ago, Walkley told everyone that one day she would suit up and play for one of the top college programs in the country - Wake Forest.

The Mansfield University women's distance medley relay team set a new school record at the New Balance Meet at The Armory in New York City.
The team of Clarissa Cummings, Erica Ferguson, Bethany Coons and Brenae Edwards finished 10th overall with a time of 12:16.93 surpass the previous school mark of 12:24.08 set in 2004.
Also doing well for the Mountaineers in the mostly NCAA Division I meet were senior Mike Gray who finished 9th overall in the shot put with a season best effort of 16.25 meters.

Sullivan County at Montgomery
The Griffins take their two-game win streak to Montgomery today. Sullivan won the first match-up 40-37 in Laporte.
While Reilly Gavitt (15.3 points per game) still leads the team in scoring Alyssa McDonald stepped up and was the leading scorer last week at 11 points per game, including averaging 13 in a two game span.

The Elmira Jackals won their third game in three days and Julien Ellis made 31 saves for his fifth career shutout and the first for the Jackals since March of 2009, as they beat the Trenton Devils 2-0 at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, N.J. on Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday night, Ellis was near perfect in a 3-2 Jackals win at the Reading Royals, making 29 saves on 31 shots. On Sunday, he turned aside all 31 shots he saw in a game in which he had no room for error.
