Area athletes compete at Penn Relays
A number of area athletes competed in the Penn Relays on Thursday.
Waverly's 4x400 girls' relay team of Kaylee Uhl, Sam Goble, Katelyn Moore and Danielle Burkhart finished seventh in their heat with a time of 4:13.21. Douglas MacArthur won the heat at 4:04.58. the fastest overall time was Holmwood Tech with a time of 3:42.35.
In the college women's javelin championship Northeast Bradford graduate Kelsey Carlsen, of LSU, took 11th with a throw of 126-feet, 4-inches.
Penn State's Laura Loht won the event with a distance of 154-feet, 7-inches.
Mansfield University had three athletes competing on Thursday.
In the college women's 10K Jess Scordino placed sixth with a time of 35:04.48.
In the Olympic Development 5K Brenae Edwards finished eighth out of 31 finishers with a time of 16:45.34.
Savannah Boucher finished 17th in the 3000 college steeplechase with a time of 11:06.51.
Two Northeast Bradford athletes will compete today with Curt Jewett running in the mile run and Sam Williams taking part in the 3000. Jewett runs at 5:45, with Williams running five minutes later at 5:50 p.m.
Northeast Bradford graduate Rob Robbins, of Cornell, takes part in the college men's javelin throw college on Saturday, while Mansfield's Rachael Tylock competes in the Olympic Development 5K race walk on Saturday. Tylock's event is at 8 a.m. and Robbins competes at 12:30 p.m.
