The Lady Wildcats took second at the Whitney Point Invitational Tuesday.

They scored 60 points, 17 behind winner Chenango Forks while Johnson City was third with 76.

"I was very pleased with how the girls ran even before we realized the team placing," Athens coach Scott Riley said. "We needed a strong team race going into districts next week and got that today. We have been kind of inconsistent throughout the season due to injuries and have been working all season to get healthy. Tonight showed we are heading that direction at the right time. We got a lot of strong races on a tough course that will help carry momentum into next week hopefully."

Maria Hudock finished fifth in 22:45.9 to lead Athens while teammate Lauren Pruyne was right behind in seventh at 23:07.2.

Emily Madigan was 15th in 24:20.4, Casey Lattimer was 18th in 24:30.8, Sarah Montrose was 23rd in 25:24.3, Michaela Courtney was 25th in 25:35.9 and Ashley Follett was 29th in 25:59.6.

Allison Schweiger was 34th in 26:36.6 to lead Tioga. Also for the Tigers Madeline Hoover was 46th in 29:13.8, Hannah Moore was 57th in 32:53.6 and Sabrina Acla was 59th in 36:10.0.

On the boys' side Athens was fourth with 85 points. Chenango Forks won with 46 while Southern Cayuga (76) and Norwich (81) were second and third.

Gabe Herbst led the Wildcats, taking fourth in 18:18.9 while teammate Jeffery Gao was 18th in 19:48.5.

Athens had four runners in a row cross from 24-27, led Sam Perri in 20:26.7. The others were Kyle Grady (20:34.5), Mike Walter (20:47.3) and Nick Lynch (20:53.2).

Keegan Brown was 30th for Athens in 21:02.6.
