Athens Junior High picks up two wins
Athens Junior Wildcats soccer team runs record to 4 - 0 with recent wins over Galeton (3-0) and Northern Potter (5-2).
In Athens - the junior Wildcat squad was in control from the opening tap. Center striker Bradley Cardona took a feed from winger Emily Lunger and punched it past the Galeton keeper to give Athens the early lead. Just before the half - left striker Braden Priester added to the Athens lead with an unassisted tally. Athens closed out the scoring in the second half with right wing striker Emily Lunger finding the net for an unassisted goal.
Athens held the shots on goal margin at 14 - 4.
Athens won the "B" game 3 - 0 behind two goals from striker Ariana Gambrell. Athens striker Abby Segar also added a goal.
In the win over Northern Potter Athens left wing striker Brandon Hunsinger got Athens on the board less than four minutes into the game redirecting a cross from right wing striker Emily Lunger.
Striker Rachel Hutchison upped the Wildcat tally taking a lateral pass from center midfielder Ethan Lane and firing in NP's net giving Athens a 2 - 1 halftime lead. Less than two minutes in the 2nd half center striker Bradley Cardona came to life and gave the Wildcats a 3 - 1 lead.
Cardona found the net again less than 40 seconds late using a pass from Lunger to give the Cats at 4 - 1 lead. Midfielder Morgan Ferguson capped the Wildcat scoring with an unassisted goal at the 16:00 minute mark giving Athens the final margin of 5 - 2.
Athens in on the road Wednesday in Wellsboro for a 4 p.m. game.
