Athens junior high soccer tops Sayre
ATHENS - It was all Wildcats from tap to horn as Athens rolled 11-0 over Sayre.
Athens offense was in top gear registering 22 shots on goal with six different Cats scoring goals. Midfielder Ethan Lane lead the charge with a "hat trick" with strikers Braden Priester, Bradley Cardona, and Rachel Hutchison each finding the twine twice in the outing.
The Jr. Wildcats wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Center midfielder Ethan Lane took a feed from striker Bradley Cardona to notch the first Athens tally less than five minutes in. Cardona followed up with an unassisted goal of his own less than a minute later. Ten minutes later striker Rachel Hutchison upped the Cat count using a through-ball from Cardona to give Athens the 3-0 lead. Lane pounded in his second goal of the game off another Cardona feed to give the Cats a 4-0 intermission lead.
The Cats went right back to work in the second half. After being pulled down in the box left wing striker Braden Priester punched his penalty kick past the Sayre keeper for the 5-0 lead. Cardona notched goal number two less than two minutes later off a lateral pass from Priester to up the count to 6-0. Priester banged in his second goal of the day less than one minute later as Cardona registered his fourth assist of the game. Six minutes later - Lane capped his "trick" with a feed from Priester to give Athens a 8-0 lead. Hutchison pumped in her second tally of the game pushing a shot past the Sayre keeper off a pass from center midfielder Aric Westbrook. Left midfielder Taylor Reynard fired in an unassisted goal at the 12 minute mark to give the Cats a 10-0 lead. Striker Willy Tilley rounded out the Cats scoring column using a cross from midfielder Gavin Stein to give the Cats a final margin of 11-0.
Athens defense was stellar holding Sayre to just two shots on goal. Cat Keepers Braden Priester and Kara Chapman each registered one save.
Athens Head Coach Shawn Priester said "This was a total team effort tonight. We carry a roster of 32 players on one team and every single one of them played their best game of the season right here tonight!"
Athens is home on Saturday against Williamson at 10 a.m. at Athens Alumni Stadium for their final home game of the season.
