The Athens junior varsity girls soccer team finished the season with a perfect record this year.
"My girls had a fabulous season and they all helped contribute to the undefeated record of 15-0," coach Larry Hurley said. "My midfield with Ashley Romania, Allison Vine and Christin Dunkling played a big role in our success as they controlled the game and did a fantastic job feeding my strikers."
Up front the Wildcats had a strong showing this year.
"The strikers worked tirelessly and kept the pressure on the goal keepers every game and that pressure paid off big time and was a significant contributing factor to our success this season," Hurley said. "Meghan Hurley, Monica Dougherty, Mackenzie Vargason, Keirsten Horton and Sara Reid were able to finish their shots and crashed the net when necessary to secure our wins."
While the offense played well, the defense also was strong this year.
"Our defense was not pressured much, but when they were Keri Eby, Jessica Kopatz, Mallory Johnson, Danielle Stopper and Gabe Duval stepped it up and held off any attack on goal.
"Viskaka Kulatunga helped out in the net and did her job well. Julia Kennedy and Casey Lewis, both new the game of soccer, jumped in when necessary to help secure our wins."
Overall Hurley was proud of how his team played.
"I can't say enough about how proud I am of my girls. They did everything I asked of them this year.
"They trained hard and worked together as a team. They deserved every win earned."

This was not a pure JV team as no soccer teams in the area are.
