Athens tops Waverly, NEB
ATHENS - The Wildcats picked up two wrestling wins on Saturday, a non-league victory over Waverly 37-30 and an NTl win over Northeast Bradford 54-22.
Against Waverly at 106 Wildcat Brock Horton scored a 3-1 win over Waverly's A.J. Burkhart. Athens then got forfeits from Brandon Barry (113) and Brian Courtney (120) while at 126 Waverly's Jacob Schroyer pinned Athens' Gage Cannavino in 6:41.
At 132 Athens' Kaidon Winters scored a 5-4 decision over D.J. Meyers while at 138 Waverly's Kacey Madigan edged Athens' Devon Spencer 6-0.
Then at 145 Wildcat Zach Sheppeck earned a 10-2 major decision over Wally heinzelman while at 152 Wolverine Joey Peters pinned Athens' Brandon Jennings in 3:05.
At 160 Wildcat Cody Jennings pinned Waverly's Tyler Wolcott in 3:11 while at 170 Wolverine Brandon Ellers scored a 5-3 win over Dakoda Cain in sudden victory.
At 182 Athens' Shane McGrath pinned Waverly's Justin Dudash in 4:57, followed by Roger Horton scoring a 4-1 win over Jordon Huck at 195.
Waverly's Jeff Klossner scored a forfeit at 220 while at 285 Waverly's Ryan Wolcott earned a fall over Athens' Jordan Alliger in 1:09.
Then against the Panthers at 145 Sheppeck got a fall over Northeast's Tyler Emick in 2:53.
At 152 Panther Austin Saxer pinned Brandon Jennings in 2:22 while at 160 Cody Jennings pinned Northeast's Donald Michalkiewicz in 1:22. Cain pinned Panther Caleb Garrity in 3:39 at 170 while at 182 Panther Brandon Devonshire scored a 13-0 major decision over McGrath.
At 195 Northeast's Rico Forbes earned a fall over Athens' Austin Robert in 47 seconds while at 220 Horton pinned Ryan Russell in 4:29. At 285 Northeast's Cody Clark scored a fall over Alliger in 5:14.
At 106 Brock Horton pinned Adam Russell in 2:58, at 113 Courtney scored a forfeit, at 120 Cannavino beat Northeast's Dolen Ennis in 27 seconds, at 132 Winters pinned NEB's Blaine Russell in 3:38 while at 138 Athens' Devon Spencer pinned Cody Bond in 5:01.
There was a double forfeit at 126.
Wyalusing went 1-3 at the Zephyr Duals Saturday.
They beat Northwestern Legigh off the bat 58-21.
Warner Mendoza (195), Dylan Otis (220), Tracey Brown (120), Collin Edsell (132) and Justin Haley (152) scored falls while Dalton Chilson (285), Nevin Nolte (138), Ryan Force (145) and Taylor Armitage (170) earned forfeits.
At 182 Justin Griffith scored a 10-0 major decision.
Wyalusing then lost to Emmaus 44-23 as Chilson (285) and Mendoza (195) scored falls. Edsell (138) had a 15-0 technical fall while Justin Haley (152) scored a 7-3 decisioin. Josh Haley (113) had a 9-2 decision as well.
Paramus then beat Wyalusing 46-21 as Chilson (285), Josh Haley (113) and Otis (220) scored falls.
The Rams finished out by losing to Hughesville 39-28.
Justin Haley (145) and Chilson (285) scored forfeits while Austin Shaffer (152) earned a fall. Josh Haley (113) earned an 11-3 major decision while Otis had a 3-1 decision.
EAST JUNIATA DUALS
Sullivan County went 2-3 at the East Juniata Duals Saturday.
They beat Greencastle Antrim 43-28 as Logan Wiles (152), Matt Dailey (170) and Nate Ritinski (285) scored falls while Shawn Nitcznski (132) and Tanner McCarty (195) earned forfeits.
James Heinrich (138) scored a 6-3 decision while Dylan Ammerman (160) had a 19-8 major decision.
The Griffins also beat Tulpehocken 51-12.
Ammerman (160), Dailey (170), McCarty (195), Maranna Nitcznski (106), James McCamley (126) and Shawn Nitcznski (132) scored forfeits. Ritinski (285) and Mikel Houseknecht (113) earned falls.
The Griffins lost to Carlisle 67-10 as Shawn Nitcznski (132) scored an 18-5 major decision while Ritinski (285) earned a fall.
Hershey also beat Sullivan 53-25.
Shawn Nitcznski (132) scored a 12-4 major decision while Dailey (170), McCarty (195) and Ritinski (285) had falls. Wiles (152) added a 3-1 decision.
Then the Griffins lost to Glendale 44-30.
