Lauren Beers, a homeschool graduate from Warren Center, is having another strong season for the University of Alabama gymnastics team.

Beers is a scholarship athlete for the nation's fifth-ranked gymnastics team and she has been a regular contributor since her freshman season.

A year ago on the vault and floor she earned All-American status as a freshman and SEC Freshman of the month.

Recently she helped her team defeat the University of Georgia in a close meet where she scored a career best on the floor of 9.925. She also had a 9.825 on the vault and tied her best of 9.95 at a meet earlier this year in Tennessee.

Beers has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout her career and as a result has been awarded with Scholastic All-American status.

With the postseason just a little more than a month away Beers and her teammates are looking forward to this year's SEC Championships and National Championships. Both events will be hosted in Birmingham, Ala. only about 45 minutes outside of the campus.

It is expected they will see a significant fan base at these meets as the gymnastics team at Alabama typically boasts one of the nation's largest attendances at home meets, averaging over 13,000 fans per meet. At their breast cancer awareness 'Pink Meet' in January the team saw a sold out crowd of over 15,000.

Beers describes her student fans as being the best and really helping the team to 'get in their groove.' It is amazing to perform for a coliseum full of people that are there to support you and your team, she said.

The Crimson Tide have won six NCAA women's gymnastic's national titles, seven SEC Championships and an NCAA record 27 regional championships and are looking to add to their numbers this year as they continue to climb in the rankings on their road to Birmingham.
