Bucktail tops Towanda to win NTL girls' tennis title
Bucktail closed out a pair of wins over Towanda on Wednesday to capture their second straight NTL title.
Bucktail is 12-0 in the league and 15-0 overall to win the title for consecutive years.
"This was an excellent match with two great teams," Bucktail coach Daniel Heiser said. "Towanda showed up to play and it was an unbelievable night of tennis. There were ups and downs and both teams deserve a lot of recognition.
"From a coaching perspective Alison and I are extremely proud of these girls. They are truly a great team. No one person thinking they are better than the other and always having each others back."
The first match ended 4-2. It was a match started in Towanda and stopped due to rain.
Maria Morgan won in first singles 6-2, 6-1 over Kaitlin Hallabuk of Towanda and Bucktail's Abby Ransom won 7-5, 6-1 over Carly Chaffee at second singles.
Towanda's Hannah Innocenzo won 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 over Mary Fecteau at third singles and Towanda's Eric Place won 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Kaetha Gentzyel in fourth singles, while Bucktail's Alaina Tripp won 7-5, 6-1 over Katie Christian in fifth singles.
Morgan and Ransom won 6-4, 6-3 over Hallabuk and Chaffee in doubles.
In the other match Bucktail won 4-3.
Morgan won 6-0, 6-1 over Hallabuk and Ransom beat Chaffee 6-2, 6-3.
Innocenzo topped Fecteau 6-2, 6-4 and Place beat Gentzyel 6-2, 6-3, while Christian won 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 over Marissa Coleman in fifth singles.
Morgan and Ransom won 6-2, 7-5 over Hallabuk and Chaffee in first doubles and Tripp and Fecteau won 6-3, 7-6, 10-4 over Innocenzo and Place.
Liberty 5, Wellsboro 2
Liberty got a win from Jourdyn Buckheit 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 over Raisa Rogers in first singles and Savannah Alexyn won 6-2, 6-4 over Brianna Quimby in second singles.
Liberty's Katey McCloskey won 6-1, 6-2 over Bailey Corse in third singles.
Wellsboro won fourth and fifth singles as Maddy Clemens beat Lauren Briggs 6-2, 6-2 and Shyann Foreman beat Savannah Dunlap 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).
Buckheit and Alexyn won 6-0, 6-1 over Rogers and Corse in first doubles and McCloskey and Briggs won 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 over Quimby and Clemens.
