East Smithfield tops Wells Jackson
Improving their 2013 regular season record to 3-0, East Smithfield (ESLL) Minor Baseball, which is sponsored by Laurel Hill Veterinary Services, comes away with a hard-fought win against Wells Jackson (WJ).
Anton Smith started on the mound for ESLL pitching for two innings. Smith had three strikeouts, one walk, two wild pitches and gave up two hits. When Smith left the mound ESLL lead WJ 2-1. Smith went 2-for-3 having triples in the third and fifth innings; Smith scored twice for ESLL as well.
Tucker Brown took the mound in the bottom of the third inning. While Brown tried to find his groove, WJ pulled out 5-runs of their own for a 6-4 WJ lead at the bottom of the third inning.
WJ's Vandelinder reached first base on a single, followed by Smith who walked on. Chimics came up to bat and earned an RBI single scoring Vanderlinder. Chimics and Gontarz both score by walks with bases loaded. After walking on base, Hutz scores for WJ on Arnold's RBI single. ESLL's relief pitcher, Tucker Brown, ended the game with four strikeouts, three walks, and giving up four hits. Brown's bat went 2-for-3, earning an RBI in the first inning with his solo shot homerun inside the park. Brown's second RBI was earned on a single in the fifth.
ESLL had a solid fourth and fifth innings at the plate; each inning scored five runs bringing their final score to 14. At the same time, ESLL's pitching and defense in these innings were solid also, not allowing WJ to score any runs. Josiah Talladay, going 2-for-2 this game, put up an RBI single in the fourth inning to score Robbie Kisner.
Troy Jennings walked on base in the fourth inning after Caleb Fritsch went 1-for-2 earning a single. This set up the bases with two runners for Alex Kellogg who hit a long ball to left field scoring both Jennings and Fritsch. Jaren Glisson went 1-for-2 with an RBI single in the fifth and led the ESLL team with five stolen bases. Going 1-for-1, center fielder Robbie Kisner added a RBI single, scoring Nathan Allen. Dylan Comstock slugged out a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the 5th inning that scores Glisson. Aaron Williams earns 2-RBIs going 1-for-3 with a fifth inning single.
WJ's pitchers were E. Short (eight strikeouts, three walk, one wild pitch, and gave up three hits), O. Gontarz (two walks and gave up three hits), and J. Chimics (one walk and gave up five hits)
The hits for WJ were put up by Chimics, Gontarz, T. Achey, M. Arnold, and T. Vandelinder. Scoring for WJ were Chimics, Gontarz, J. Hutz, Achey, Vanderlinder and K. Smith.
