HEPBURNVILLE - When Loyalsock kept the ball on the ground, the Wyalusing defense was able to keep them in check.

However, when the Lancers went to the air it was a different story.

Loyalsock scored on five headers off corner kicks on their way to a 7-0 victory in the District 4, Class A playoffs on Wednesday night.

"They are a quality school and they are good at scoring on those corner kicks," Wyalusing coach Nick Maghamez said. "I thought we played them pretty well on the field, it's those corner kicks that hurt us.

"We allowed one corner kick all year but they are very good and they battle well in the box."

The loss ends the season for the 16th seeded Rams, while the No. 1 Lancers will take on Mansfield on Saturday at a time and place to be determined.

After falling behind 6-0 at the half, the Rams had a strong showing in the second half. While Loyalsock pulled many starters in the half, it was Wyalusing who controlled much of the play.

"This is going to be a learning process, we played well and I'm proud of how we played," Maghamez said.

Maghamez is happy with the way his seniors played for him all year long.

"I'm very proud of the seniors, over their career they have done a great job," he said.

And, in the second half the Rams were able to get more of their young players into the game and that's something that he hopes will help them down the road.

"I hope they get over that initial fluster," Maghamez said. "They really stayed positive and this was a good learning experience and hopefully next year they can learn from this and hopefully get a better seed."

Loyalsock got on the board at 33:37 of the first half as an Asia Ungard corner kick was headed in by Angie Cardillo.

Loyalsock added to the lead at 21:11 as Allie Pagana headed in a cross from Ungard.

It became a 3-0 game at 19:16 as Morgan Chambers got the Lancers third straight goal off an Ungard corner kick.

"We have the film and the first 20 or so minutes, I thought we were very tentative," Maghamez said. "I thought we came back and played better as we settled in."

With 5:35 left Chambers scored off an assist from Alonna Soars and at 4:20 Chambers scored off another header on an Ungard corner.

With 2:41 left in the first half Loyalsock made it 6-0 as Pagana scored off a Soars assist.

The game was scoreless in the second half until 6:24 left as Loyalsock re-entered a few of their starters and Chambers scored off another Ungard corner kick.

Loyalsock finished with 23 shots and 11 corners and Wyalusing had six shots and two corner kicks.

McKenzi Millard had 13 saves for the Rams and Amanda Danecker had six saves for Loyalsock in the game.
