With the NTL track and field season already underway and the IAC set to begin this week local runners, jumpers and throwers will be hitting their strides in the coming weeks.

Wellsboro Green Hornets

Girls

Head Coach: Jeff Zuchowski

Assistant coaches: Liz Hoover, Aaron Singer, Tom Slichter, Melanie Berndtson, Nate Babcock

Record last season: 6-0

Returning Runners: Elise Becker, Lauren Bleggi, Becky Chambers, Ashley Johns, Randi Grim, Denae Ingerick, Mackenzie Marple, Annie Sweeney

Returning Field athletes: Kim Acorn, Jessie Catherman, Kaelyn Keane, Sarah Kramer, Katie Straniere

Newcomers: Jordyn Coffee, Emma Eccher, Jada Jackson, Camryn Keane, Danielle Mihalik, Raisa Rogers, Hannah Zuchowski

Thoughts on this year's team: This year's team is very inexperienced as we have 24 girls who have never run track before. We didn't lose many girls to graduation, but the ones who did graduate scored a lot of points for us and represented us in states for several years. It will be interesting to see who steps up into a leadership role this year and which of our new athletes will end up contributing. Our success will depend on how we compete without having last year's seniors to rely upon.

Thoughts on the league this season: The league is going to look very different this year. It will be interesting to see how the league championship meet is affected with all 10 teams involved. Adding the small division schools will definitely change everyone's strategy because even if they lack the numbers, they all have athletes capable of scoring and changing the dynamics of that meet.

Boys

Head Coach: Dave Sanford

Assistant Coaches: John Shaffer

Roster: Evan Bair (freshman), Jonas Benner (sophomore), Justin Bodine (senior), Dan Brooks (junior), Jermaine Brooks (junior), Joseph Brought (junior), Blair Carson (junior), Jack Chambers (sophomore), Dakota Cleveland (freshman), Anthony Cooper (freshman), Owen Covert (freshman), Joey Doganiero (junior), Blake Gamble (junior), Alex Granger (freshman), Bobby Hill (senior), Jordan Jackson (senior), Cody Losinger (junior), Bill Lupkowski (junior), Nick Marple (sophomore), John McKelvey (sophomore), Jake Mitchell (sophomore), Michael Pietropola (sophomore), Dylan Prough (junior), Matt Reese (senior), Keegan Reifer (sophomore), Dan Saniga (senior), Gaetan Simonin (junior), Kieron Smethers (sophomore), Mitch Snyder (senior), Phillip Straniere (freshman), Thomas Straniere (senior), Rich Tardieu (freshman), Nick Webster (freshman), Tucker Worthington (freshman).

Thoughts on this year's team: Jordan Jackson is primed to have a good season after coming off a strong cross country campaign this past fall. He medaled at states in XC and looks to be a contender for the state championship at 800 meters. He finished 3rd last year at the state meet and has his sights set for the top spot on the podium at Shippensburg. Bobby Hill will also be a key player for the track and field team this year. He qualified for states in both cross country and swimming and has shown up in incredible shape. Earning a seat on the bus to the state meet at Shippensburg is also a reachable goal for him. Thomas Strainere, Mitch Snyder, Dan Brooks, Mike Pietropola, and Joe Doganiero have all showed up fit and ready to work. They have really been impressive in the first two weeks of practice and are all looking to make a significant impact early on at the League and district level. We have a young but very talented team. We are lead by some very seasoned upper classman and a great crop of sophomores that are already making a huge team impact. This year will prove to be one of a lot of success here in Wellsboro and we are looking forward to see what will come of our hard work.

Athens Wildcats

Girls

Head Coach: Scott Riley

Assistant Coaches: Lyle Rockwell and Ben Gambrell

Record Last Season: 5-3

Newcomers: Nine freshman girls and 13 additional new girls. There are many of them who will contribute but so far, Michaela Courtney, Elizabeth Reid and Christan Dunkling look to be point getters in our meets right off the bat. But it's still very early and with a young team, I would anticipate several other first year team members to fill key roles.

Key Losses: Ashley Fisher didn't come out for the team this season. We were very fortunate to only graduate one senior last year but it will be a big loss. Jess Kopatz was a state qualifier in high jump

Thoughts on this year's team: We had only one senior graduate. Filling voids like that is always difficult. Fortunately for Athens, we have a great deal of depth on our team and the largest roster since I've been involved with the program pushing 55 ladies. There are several of them that have been contributing from the beginning as well as several others that joined the team this year as first year upper classmen. Everyone knows what is takes to win on this team and they have been really pushing themselves to continue the established tradition we have here. We have an early season start this year so there is still a lot to be figured out. We switch back to AAA again this cycle so that will change the game a bit too when the end of the season comes and qualifying kids for states.

Thoughts on the league this year: We compete in a very strong league where any team can win any given year. It will be interesting to see what additions teams have made to their rosters and to see the impacts they will have. But we are aware of the depth several schools are returning as well as merging the small school division into the NTL meet. That will have an impact as well.

Boys

Head Coach: Dave Gabriel

Assistant coaches: Scott Riley, Skip Roupp, Lyle Rockwell, Mike Wagner, Ben Gambrell

Record last season: 6-1

Returning Runners: Tyler Birdsall (senior), Bradley Sampson (senior), Luke Webster (senior), Matt Millard (senior), Nick Pane (senior), Jake Coyle (senior), Alex Walter (senior), Jack Schultz (junior),

Returning field athletes: Austin Depew (senior), Ryan Kreykenbohm (senior), Scott Laidlaw (senior), Tom Shenot (senior), Garrett Ulmer (senior), John Canfield (senior), Fred Horn (junior), Adam Felt (junior), Teddy Green (junior)

Newcomers: Craig Moore (senior), Casey Clark (senior), Sam Vergeson (senior), Austin Lister (freshman), Austin Lane (freshman), Kevin Stedge (sophomore), Ryan Segar (freshman).

Thoughts on this year's team: This year's team has 22 total seniors with great experience. They are returning two of the record breaking 4x400 relay in Brad Sampson and Tyler Birdsall. Also returning is Austin Depew who has state championship experience in the long jump as well. The junior and sophomore classes are weak in numbers, but I am looking for some sleepers to emerge as competitors as the year goes on. The freshman class totals 18 kids who are very new to this level of track and field. There needs to be some molding done, but in time I feel we will have some freshman being a big part of this year's team.

Thoughts on the league this season: The league has been redone to incorporate all 10 teams this year. I'm excited for the NTL Championships this year, as it will be a high caliber meet, which will in turn prepare our NTL athletes for District competition. Track and field boosters have purchased additional equipment to add to our finish lynx system in an effort to have the NTL meet move as smooth as possible and with accurate times. We have added an auto capture feature to our existing camera, a remote wireless transducer for the starter in order to pick up the exact moment the gun goes off, we purchased another camera called an Identilynx camera that assists in sorting out photo finishes and congestion at the finish line. With the addition of this equipment, we should easily be able to handle the NTL meet and keep it moving throughout the day.

Waverly Wolverines

Girls

Head Coach: Scott Baird

Assistant coaches: Tara Hogan, (volunteers) Darren Uhl and Nate Culver

Record last season: Overall: 6-0 Divisional Champions

Returning Runners: Kylene Chandler (distance), Shelby Tubbs (hurdles), Samantha Goble (sprints/middle distance), Katelyn Moore (sprints/middle distance), Danielle Burkhart (sprints/middle distance), Kylie Newman (hurdles), Sidney Shaffer (hurdles), Daylen Smith (hurdles/middle distance), and Kaylee Uhl (sprints/middle distance)

Returning Field athletes: Sarah Rote (throws), Sidney Shaffer (jumps), Erika Morales (throws), and Kylie Newman (jumps)

Newcomers: Erin Fagan (jumps), Anna Smith (throws), Kristen Whitley (throws), Fallon Huck (throws), Kelsey Frank (distance), Sage Hugo, Meagan Stanton, Saige Flintjer, and Breanna Featherson (sprints).

Thoughts on this year's team: My numbers are down this year. I do have an experienced team overall. With this experience I look for us to be solid competitively. It will be a matter what events I need to put them in. I feel we have good chemistry with this team, so that should be helpful. If the new ones are able to come around, we should be even stronger. Of course because of the low numbers, we will need to stay healthy.

Thoughts on the league this season: I think our league will be strong this season. At this point, I would give Dryden and ND to be the front runners on the large school overall title. Hopefully, we can be somewhere in the thick of things as well.

Boys

Head Coach- Charlie Hughes

Assistant- Bob Beardsley

Last year's record: 10-0, IAC league Champions

Roster: Andrew Zobel (senior, discus/shot put), Richard Northrop (senior, sprints), Austin Trengo (senior, mid-distance), Dylan Wright (senior, pole vault), Jon Puusalu (senior, hurdles/triple jump), Ryan McFarland (junior, sprints), Randy Chandler (junior, distance), Tyler Wolcott (junior, sprints), Mark Kraus (junior, mid-distance), Jimmy Heffner (junior, hurdles), Brandon Anderson (sophomore, throws), Brandon Bostwick (sophomore, sprints), Cam Wood (sophomore, pole vault), Kendrick Wood (sophomore, sprints), Keilen Carpenter (freshman, throws), Jacob Goble (freshman, sprints), Josh Mastrantuono (freshman, pole vault)

Thoughts on the team this season: We lost a lot of big point scorers last season, But we have a solid nucleus. The numbers are going to be a factor this season as we are a little low. We have good numbers in the junior high team , so we should be able to rebound next season. Ryan McFarland returns from a solid season last year. Dylan Wright should be a force in the pole vault as he has recovered from last season's knee surgery. Andrew Zobel has been throwing well so far this preseason with his discus being the better event. Jon Puusalu and Jimmy Heffner should be solid in the hurdles. Our mid distance and distance crew will be small in numbers but should be very competitive. Josh Mastrantuono has the potential to be very good as a 9th grader in the pole vault. Team wise, lack of depth will be a problem, but as the season develops, there should be some outstanding performances from this team.

Northeast Bradford Panthers

Head Coach: Michael Murphy (boys and girls)

Assistant coaches: Sondra Morris

Returning runners: Derek Allabaugh (sophomore), Katie Allen (sophomore), Skylar Ayers (sophomore), Brandon Devonshire (junior), Andrew Jampo (sophomore), Curt Jewett (senior), Alyson Middaugh (sophomore), Colton Snyder (senior), Alyssa Turner (sophomore), Sam Williams (senior).

Returning field athletes: Bradley Alderson (sophomore), Tucker Antisdel (sophomore), Nicole Chilson (sophomore), Zach Darling (sophomore), John Eastabrook (sophomore), Shawn Hakes (senior), Austin Manchester (sophomore), Alan Vough (sophomore)

Newcomers: Taylor Arnold (freshman), Taylor Barrett (freshman), Cole Beckwith (sophomore), Sam Beers (freshman), Rachel Cooper (freshman), Richard Forbes (sophomore), Naomi Gallagher (sophomore), Ben Horton (sophomore), Tara Kelley (freshman), Lisa Knecht (freshman), Isaiah McPherson (senior), Andrew Seeley (sophomore), Cory Souto (freshman), Terumi Suzuki (junior), Levi Upham (freshman), Hailee Weisman (freshman), Lydia Werner (freshman), Anna Wheaton (freshman), James Zajak (senior).

Thoughts on this year's team: The team will return three state medalist from last year's track season: Curt (1600), Sam (3200, 1600), and Colton (800). The team also finished 10th at the PIAA state championships last year. Add in a state title in boys cross-country and individual medalist Brandon Devonshire, Sam, and Curt; look for the NEB boys to be strong in events 400 and above. The throwers from NEB continue to develop and I would look for some big gains and some district medals from Hakes, Vough, and Darling. The girl's team has a lot of inexperience. Look for Lydia Werner to excel in any event she chooses. Alyssa Turner would like her shot at district glory, either on the track or with the javelin. The rest of the girls continue to work hard and we'll see what this young group can do.

Thoughts on the league this season: With only one league this year, the league meet should be fun.

Thoughts on this year's team: The boys are working hard and we feel good about where we are at despite the weather. We are working to get better everyday. The girls are also working really hard and trying to improve everyday.

Thoughts on the league this season: The league is going to be tough with the combining of small and large schools.

Thoughts on this year's team: (Williamson-John Farrelly) This will be a year of trying to figure out just how we are going to put this together going forward. Next year will be easier and with the large number of quality middle school athletes; (CV) We're planning on having a great year working together with the coaches and athletes from the other end of our district this year. We expect a few glitches along the way but we're overall very optimistic and excited.

Thoughts on the league this season: (Williamson-John Farrelly) Personally, I have pushed for one league schedule since the leagues were divided in the late 70s. The small schools were penalized by having difficulty in scheduling so that all athletes had quality opponents in league meets. It meant that the quality athletes that the small schools had only found good competition by going to invitationals, before they got to the District 4 meet. (CV) We feel like the competition in our league is always pretty solid. This year the scheduling will be much different and open up opportunities for athletes to compete at venues where we traditionally have not competed before - or at least in long time. Hopefully this change to an "all-school" league (as opposed to small-school/large-school) is not just an adjustment due to number of teams in the league, but rather progress toward better and more competitive athletes.

Thoughts on this year's team: We have a lot of new kids this year who are working hard and are excited for the season. We have several returning district qualifiers and a number of new kids who should be very competitive and hit district qualifiers.

Boys

Coaches name: Doug Ault

Assistant coaches: Steve Parks

Returning Runners: Lorenzo Servedio, Nick Sweet, Andy Platt, John Misner, Kyle Post, Adam Moore, Brad Hatch, Juan Velazquez, Marcos Velazquez, Lucas Murphy, Jeremy Kyc, Tony Aranda, Austin Willis, Aaron Wilhelm, Ryan Kipp, John Northrup

Thoughts on this year's team: We lost a lot of senior leadership and experience, however our kids are working very hard and improving every practice.

Thoughts on the league this season: I am excited for our athletes to face the very best during the season and at the league meet (where we face all the large and small schools).

Tioga Tigers

Head coach: Eric Gutierrez

Assistant coaches: Jim Walsh, Stewart Rogers

Boys roster: Dylan Babcock, Austin Beebe, Collin Benesh, Kevin Blakeslee, Kegan Brink, Sam Burns, Cody Decker, Aaronn DiMarco, Colin Elston, Jeremiah Henneman, Ryan Hills, Justice Howey, Matthew Jump, Josh Kithkart, Jacob Lewis, Matthew Lounsbury, Gage Lubertowicz, Ian Moon, Josh Moore, Devon Nauta, Austin Payne, Jonah Schumacher, Jacob Schweiger, Noah Schweiger, David Snell, Shane Snover, Connor Swagler, Darren Vough, Brenden Walker, Zach Wallace, Michael Williams, Dalton Wojcuich, Nathan Zimmer

Girls roster: Kaila Ketchum, Cassie Ritchie, Emily Schweiger, Shianne Shanahan, Kate Shuler, Emily Stansfield, Madison Tinney, Charlsie Bowen, Kelby Cole, Maddie Cotton, Brooke Albanese, Darby Borden, Rachael Schweiger, Malley Bown, Holly Passetti

Thoughts on this year's team: The Track and Field Team had a successful season last year. The boys' team was in a three way tie for 2nd in the small school southern division. The girls' team may not have fared so well in the dual meets but had an excellent showing at many of the invitationals; placing 4th at IAC's, 5th in the Class C championships, and sending two athletes to the state meet; Madison Tinney (100m) and Charlsie Bowen (Pole Vault). Over all Tioga sent 8 athletes to state qualifiers and most of them will be retuning this next year. By the end of the season this group truly became a team and I'm proud of them.

Thoughts on this year's team: We are small in numbers once again but we have a lot of talent back from last season.

Thoughts on the league: It's a bigger league this year with no small or large school classification, it should be very competitive.

Wyalusing Rams

Head coach: James Schools

Assistant coaches: Jon Schulze, Dave Behrend, Keith Estes, Matt Kaufmann (volunteer), Amy Hunsinger (volunteer), Brent Heeman (volunteer), Mark Kusmierz (volunteer), Kathy Lutz (volunteer), Jason Naugle (volunteer), and Jenny Stevens (volunteer)

Record last season: Boys 6-3, Girls 7-2

Returning runners: Boys - Tim Ace, Ryan Davis, Aaron Woodruff, Matt Woodruff, Zamien Benditt-Parkes, Mark Kusmierz, Ash Sollick, Ethan Ace,

Girls - Erika Huffman, Morgan Sutton, Kayleen Sutton, Kaci Woznicki, Joanna McGee, Emily Edwards, Katie Prichard, Morgan Doerner, Carlyn Edsell, Delana Szemple, Roni Morrison,

Returning Field athletes: Boys - Jeremy Allyn, Jonah Shotwell, Tim Ace, Jacob Gibbs, Devin Masters, Paul Fusco, Justin Griffith, Dustin Kaufmann, Clint Crawford, Jordan Schools, Dillin Smith

Girls - Keegan Carpenter, Jessica Carr, Claire Howard, Savannah Schools, Cassie Nedley, Abigail Borel, Alicia Tewksbury, Adrianna Vaskas, Sarah LaFrance, Courtney Norman, Kailee Norton, Bailey Smith, Tiffany Newton, Pam Kelley

Newcomers: Boys - Lucas Jennings, Tim Kelley, Brandon Kelley, Cody Auer, Dustin Brown, Devin Masters, Colston Gowin, Tracey Brown, Alex Dake, Dominic Hagadorn, Collin Edsell, Duane Shrimp, and Mitchell Schools

Girls - Monica Black, Shelby Burgess, Brittany Smith, Keon Copp, Kaitlyn Pope, Brooke Force, Georgia O'Conner, Marca Miller, Chelsea Zionkowski, Sarah Girven, Terrilyn Walters, Kristen Soloweij.

Thoughts on this year's team: Boys - our numbers are lower than usual. Despite that, I feel that in most dual meets, we have some one that can compete for the victory in each event. However, due to the lack of numbers our depth is not so great. The boys have been working hard in the first part of the season and they are ready to get the season started.

Girls - We lost some key members of last year's NTL runner up team, but we also returning some very important scorers from the meet. The addition of some key rookies will fill in any holes that we may have with depth. The girls too have been working hard during the preseason. We have very specific goals for this season and the girls are focused on those goals.

Thoughts on the league this season: With the new alignment of the league this year makes it difficult to get a good handle on the how it will shake out. I feel that Athens, Northeast Bradford and Towanda have to be the top of the boys league. On the girls side, it too is difficult to get a clear picture of the favorite. Athens and Wellsboro would have to be there in my mind.

Notre Dame Crusaders

Head coach: Ed Shelling

Assistant coaches: John Malnoske, Jeff Naylor

Boys

Record last season: 0-3

Returning runners: Dan Cleary (distance), Carl Shen (sprints), Bill Marcy (sprints), Mike DiFabio (middle distance), Garrett Butters (distance)

Returning field athletes: Carl Shen (jumps), Bill Marcy (jumps)

Newcomers: Matt Watkins (throws), Tom Watkins (throws), Eric Brennan (throws), Matt Karee (middle distance)

Thoughts on this year's team: This team is a mixture of veterans and newcomers, but a team with a lot of inexperience. Some of the younger members need to get acclimated and the younger veterans need to step up and play more important roles on the team.

Thoughts on the league this season: The league is always tough and it will help the team improve as the season goes on.

Girls

Record last season:2-1

Returning Runners: Brittany Schutrum (sprints), Mary Pelkowski (middle distance), Mara Skordynski (sprints), Jenny Smithers (hurdles), Deborah Diarra (sprints), Allegra Dawes (middle distance)

Returning Field athletes: Mara Skordynski (jumps), Christine Schmidt (throws)

Newcomers: Victoria Schutrum (sprints/throws), Emma Booth (middle distance), Juliana Bunnell (sprints), Macie Drake (sprints/jumps), Mia Herlan (sprints), Megan O'Dell (sprints), Anna Lackner (throws), Reilly Edger (sprints)

Thoughts on this year's team: This team has a nice mix of veterans and newcomers. Hopefully the new members will progress nicely as the season progresses and make significant contributions to the team.

Thoughts on the league this season: It will be a tough battle to win the division and there is good depth in the league.

North Penn Panthers

Girls

Head coach: Jim Farrer

Assistant coaches: Clarissa Cummings

Record last season: 3-4

Returning runners: Violet Learn (junior), Simone Lichty (junior), Erin Dempsey (junior), Andrea Neff (senior), Alyssa ZStrausser (senior), Maggie Farrer (junior), Jourdyn Buckheit (sophomore), Savannah Alexyn (sophomore)

Returning field athletes: Kirsten Berguson (senior), Debby Brown (senior), Reileigh Wilson (sophomore), Meredith Kline (junior), Shannon Madigan (junior), Nicole Black (senior)

Newcomers: Britta Berguson (freshman), Chelsea Repard (freshman), Alysa Davey-Bostic (freshman)

Thoughts on this year's team: Nice mix of returning athletes and newcomers to the sport. They have worked hard in less than ideal weather conditions and have maintained a pretty good attitude. We just need a little break in the weather and a few competitions to see how good we are.

Thoughts on the league this season: The NTL has always been very competitive and will only be better with the combination of the small and large schools into one championship meet. The league will be well represented at the district and state championship meets.

Boys

Head coach: Kirk Davis

Roster: Harley Kilmer, JJ Walker, Dallas Dziuba, Jacob Spring, Ben Jackson

Returning field athletes: Bradley Alderson (sophomore), Tucker Antisdel (sophomore), Nicole Chilson (sophomore), Zach Darling (sophomore), John Eastabrook (sophomore), Shawn Hakes (senior), Austin Manchester (sophomore), Alan Vough (sophomore)
