LAWRENCEVILLE - Charles Dickens wrote 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.'

On Wednesday, it appeared he could have written those words to describe the Wellsboro volleyball team in the District 4, Class AA semifinals.

One minute the Green Hornets were on top of the world, winning game one over Troy, 26-24.

The next Wellsboro looked a bit lost, losing a lopsided 25-4 second game to the Trojans.

However, in the end it was the best of times for the Green Hornets as they won the third game 25-23, lost the fourth 25-22 and took the fifth and deciding game 16-14.

"It was like a roller coaster," Maggie Smith said of the emotions from one game to the next on Wednesday night.

For the Green Hornets after winning the first game, the second game was a huge letdown.

However, they quickly bounced back in the next game.

"We were just mad," Mackenzie Marple said. "We just got very angry after that game."

The Green Hornets just wanted that game to end so they could move on to the next three games.

"After it was 1 to 10 I just wanted to move on to the next game," Hannah Zuchowski said.

Now, the Green Hornets are moving on to the district finals.

"It's been a dream of mine since freshman year," Zuchowski said.

"We have never made it past the semifinals," Marple added.

For the Green Hornets, it was a big day serving by Breyann Campbell who had 11 points for the Green Hornets.

"Oh my gosh it was great," she said. "It was amazing."

After dropping that second game, the third game was a back-and-fourth match, with it tied at 22, before Troy hit one in the net and Shelby Young and Marple followed with kills to help the Green Hornets close it out.

"I was just trying to get everyone back up again," Zuchowski said.

This match was a huge challenge after missing school the past two days.

"We didn't even have any practice," Katie Straniere said.

"It's just so exciting," Zuchowski said.

After Troy battled back to take the fourth game the fifth game was a tight battle, but it appeared like the top-seeded Trojans were going to pull it out.

After Wellsboro was called for being in the net, the Trojans were one point away from a win, leading 14-11.

However, Wellsboro got a kill, a block from Zuchowski, Troy hit it in the net and suddenly the match was tied and the momentum was all Wellsboro's as they rallied for the win.

Now, the Green Hornets prepare to face rival Mansfield in the final.

"It's going to be so amazing," Zuchowski said. "We are going to win."

For the Wellsboro seniors the big key is to keep their careers alive.

"I did not want this to be my last match," Zuchowski said.

Zuchowski had 30 kills in the match and 32 digs, while adding nine points.

Marple had seven kills and 26 assists and Straniere had 30 digs, while Alex Kurtz had 21 assists and Young had three blocks in the match.
