The Elmira Jackals picked up a point for making it to overtime, but fell by a 4-3 score to the Evansville IceMen on Saturday night at First Arena. The loss moved the Jackals' record to 18-15-4 on the season.

Prior to the game the Jackals lost six player to AHL call ups and played the game with 15 skaters. Also, natural winger Jean Bourbeau was pressed into duty as a defender to give the Jackals six blueliners. Despite missing some of their regular producers, the Jackals grabbed a 1-0 lead when Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel scored his first goal of the season at 8:41 of the first period. That was the lone goal of the stanza and, thanks to 15 saves from Jackals goalie Maxime Clermont, it was all Elmira needed to take the lead into the intermission.

After some regrouping, Evansville came out with an offensive surge to begin the second. Aaron Gens scored his first goal of the season at 1:05 to knot the score and then helped to set up Sebastian Wannstrom's power play goal at 3:26 to give the IceMen their first lead of the night. The Jackals only needed 1:53 to respond as Louie Caporusso potted his eighth. Dustin Gazley and Artem Demkov each assisted and extended their point streaks to 10 and seven games respectively. Sensing the lead was within reach, the Jackals utilized their penalty kill to produce their third goal of the game. Working off the rush, Jordan Pietrus spun to move the puck to Bourbeau on the right wing and the captain proceeded to blast home his 11th goal of the season. Clermont swatted away nine Evansville shots in the second to help Elmira go into the third with the lead.

The IceMen did not wilt in the face of pressure, though, and their veteran leader authored the tying goal. Todd Robinson, working down the left wing, sent a pinpoint wrist shot over the glove of Clermont and into the net to knot the score at three each. The Jackals tested Evansville goalie Paul Karpowich to the tune of 12 shots in the third but were unable to restore the lead. The entire period was played at even strength, too, with only matching roughing minors given to Jake Obermeyer and Darren Kramer just over three minutes in.

With the game shifting to overtime, the IceMen only needed one rush to produce the winning goal. Gens carried in from center and worked down the right wing. His pass was one-timed by Josh Beaulieu from the slot past Clermont 38 seconds in for the victory. Gens had four points on the night with a goal and three assists.

Clermont sustained his third overtime loss of the season with a 35 save effort. The Jackals ended the night 0-for-1 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
