Jackals fall to Royals
The Elmira Jackals were shouldered with their second loss of the weekend as the Reading Royals defeated them 4-2 at First Arena on Saturday night. The loss dipped Elmira's record to 10-18-4 on the season.
The Royals jumped out of the gate and claimed the lead on their second shot of the game. Matt Campanale uncorked a wrist shot from the left wing circle that beat Elmira's Maxime Clermont high to the glove side just 1:26 into the contest. The goal was Campanale's third of the year and came with assists from Ryan Cruthers and Marvin Degon. Elmira had two great chances to tie it later in the period but Kyle Bushee rang a slap shot off the post and Danny Hobbs was stopped on a breakaway by Reading's Brandon Anderson.
Clermont stopped 25 of the 29 shots he faced in the loss. Elmira was 4-for-4 on the penalty kill and 0-for-2 on the power play.
