Previewing the Upcoming Week
10/18 at Wheeling - 7:00 p.m., Home vs. WHL 0-0-0, Away vs. WHL 0-0-0
The Jackals open their seventh season of ECHL play on Friday night at 7:00 against the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena. The Jackals and Nailers face each other 15 times over the course of the 2013-14 season, second most of any of Elmira's opponents. Elmira carries a 34-16-5 all-time record against the Nailers after going 6-4-0 against them last year. However, WesBanco Arena wasn't very kind to the Jackals and they won only two of five games on Wheeling ice. The teams did meet once in the preseason with the Jackals picking up a 5-4 overtime win. The comeback was built on the strength of three third period power play goals inside of the final three minutes of play.

Recapping Last Week
10/12 vs. Reading: W 3-1
An early Reading power play goal by Stanislav Galiev didn't derail Elmira's plans for a perfect preseason record. Jordan Pietrus and Rob Bellamy potted a goal and an assist each, Michael Beaudry scored the winning goal in the third period, and Maxime Clermont stopped 29 shots in his lone preseason start. Galiev scored on Reading's first shot of the game at 1:42 of the first but Clermont slammed the door from there. Pietrus tied the game early in the second then Beaudry and Bellamy followed with third period tallies.
* This year's Jackals team features 11 players who also suited up for the club during the 2012-13 season. The only year that saw more familiar faces was the 2012-13 squad which returned 12 players from the year prior.
* Maxime Clermont is one of three goalies to play for Elmira in back-to-back seasons. The others in that club are Michael-Lee Teslak (22-14-6 record in 44 games from 2008-10) and Marco Cousineau (21-17-5 in 45 games from 2010-12). Clermont could pass Joel Martin's club records for most appearances (49), wins (27), and minutes played (2,795) in a Jackals career since the team moved to the ECHL.
* This is the first year since 2009 that the Jackals have opened the season with the same coach that finished the prior year. This year Dwight Mullins will move into second place for most games as the Jackals head coach in the ECHL. He will trail only Steve Martinson who manned the bench for 216 regular season games from 2007 to 2010.
