Joseph, Potucek headed to states in bowling
Waverly's Conner Joseph won the state qualifier on Saturday to earn a trip to bowling states, while Tioga's Chris Potucek earned his first trip with a third-place finish.
Joseph shot 231-241-174-277-257-213 for a 1,393 to win the title, while Potucek shot 1,380 with games of 210-193-247-200-263-267.
For Potocek, it's his first trip to states, just missing a year ago, while Joseph has made it as a member of Waverly's teams in the past.
The Waverly boys took fourth at 6,077 with Horseheads winning at 6,232, Vestal second at 6,158 and Windsor third at 6,097. Tioga took fifth at 5,762.
Waverly's Billy Cowles was 10th at 1,304, Tioga's Alex Boughton was 11th at 1,276 and Notre Dame's Joel Siedman was 15th at 1,237.
Notre Dame's Alex Sherman, of Barton, was 20th at 1,200, while Waverly's Mason Beard finished 23rd at 1,187.
On the girls side, the closest area bowler to making states was Erin Fagan of Waverly at 1,177 with games of 190, 206, 160, 156, 231 and 234.
The cutoff to make states was 1,197, with Newark Valley's Kristen Chase earning the alternate spot at 1,196.
Renee Marcyan of Union-Endicott won at 1,316.
U-E won the team title at 5,821, followed by Horseheads at 5,727, Windsor at 5,364, Watkins Glen at 5,036 and Greene at 4,676. Waverly was 10th at 4,627, followed by Notre Dame at 3,922.
Other area girls were Tioga's Ashley Sherman taking 22nd at 1,130, Notre Dame's Cassie Berry, of Towanda, was 24th at at 1,111 and Waverly's Amanda Northrop was 25th at 1,092.
