Knights top Rams; CV edges Hornets; Redskins, Wolverines, Tigers win

WYALUSING - The Black Knights had four players in double-figures as they topped Wyalusing 75-61 in girls' basketball action Tuesday.

Towanda jumped out to a 17-11 first-quarter lead, but the Rams hung in there, only being down 39-33 at the half. The Black Knights outscored the Rams 36-28 in the second to get the win, though.

Kylee Sutton led Towanda with 27 points on 11 field goals, while Mariah Monahan had 16 points, Darien Lantz had 14 and Ali Wickwire scored 12.

Also for the Knights, Cassie Benjamin, Marissa Garris and Tori Welliver had two points each.

Lantz had 14 assists and eight steals, Sutton had 11 boards, three steals, two assists and one block, Wickwire had eight boards and three steals and Monahan had six rebounds, three steals and four assists.

Erica Crawford led Wyalusing with 23 points, six boards and four steals, while Erin Goodwin had 14 points and three assists.

Also for the Rams, Alexis Daly had six points and six boards, Gabby Edsell had six points and six boards, Lindsey Schulze had five, Elesha Schulze had three while Caitlyn Doerner and Laci Holdren had two points a piece.

"Towanda had a good game," Wyalusing coach Jon Schulze said. "It was a good offensive night for us, but we had no answer for Towanda's four in double-digits."

Wyalusing won the junior varsity game 44-42 as Ariel Kneller had 16 points and Lauren Chadwick had 12 for the Rams. Ashley Fleming and Welliver led Towanda with 14 each.

Wyalusing is at Canton Thursday while Towanda will host Athens. It will be Pink Night at Towanda to raise money for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. There will be a raffle with cookies and cupcakes for sale along with pink bracelets.

Cowanesque Valley 40, Wellsboro 39

The Indians came from behind to top the Green Hornets in girls' basketball action Tuesday. The win gives CV, who is undefeated in league play, a two-game lead on Wellsboro for the NTL West championship.

The Indians held a narrow 8-7 first quarter lead while both teams scored 12 in the second to make it 20-19 at the half.

Wellsboro jumped out in the third quarter, outscoring CV 16-9 to take a 35-28 lead into the fourth. However, CV's defense held the Hornets to four fourth-quarter points while they managed to score 11 to earn the win.

Kelly Hebert led the Hornets with 13 points while Alex Marple had 12 and Regan Rogers scored 10. Amy Driskell and Mackenzie Marple chipped in with two points each.

The Phelps led CV as Brittany had 16 and Sabre scored 13. Stephanie Painter and Mikayla Andrews had four points each while Micky Hurler had two and Katie Northrup scored one.

Wellsboro won the junior varsity game 33-25.

Sayre 47, Northeast Bradford 21

The Panthers hung with the Redskins for three quarters, but a 22-point outburst in the fourth quarter by Sayre gave them the win in girls' basketball action Tuesday.

Elizabeth Higley led the Redskins with 19 points and 10 boards while Megan Kyc had 11 points and 12 boards.

Also for Sayre, Cortney Prough had six points, Mollie Robinson had seven points, Kelsey Young had three points and Tara Banfield had one point, four assists and three steals.

Kelsey Carlsen led Northeast with six points while Taylor Keefe had five points and five boards. Hailey Phillips had four points and seven boards for the Panthers with Nikki Emick scoring four points and Alycia Parks having two.

Northeast won a back-and-forth junior varsity game 28-27. Courtney Emick had 11 for the Panthers while Young had 11 for Sayre.

Northeast is at Troy Thursday.

Waverly 44, TAE 28

The Wolverines jumped out to a 21-6 first-quarter lead to beat Edison in girls' basketball action Tuesday.

Molly Walker led Waverly with 11 points while Mikayla Bean had 10. Meghan Sutryk chipped in with eight points, five boards and nine steals while Cassidy Farr had six points and nine boards.

Also for the Wolverines, Kelly Lyon had five points, 11 rebounds, four steals and five assists with Jordan Mullen and Mattie Van de Wall each scoring two.

Waverly won the junior varsity game 62-36 with Emily Walker scoring 14 points for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines travel to Newark Valley Friday.

Tioga 64, SVE 33

The Tigers jumped out to a 25-4 lead in the first quarter to top SVE in girls' basketball action Tuesday.

Kara McDuffee led the way for the Tigers with 25 points, seven steals, eight rebounds and three assists while Kacy Hoyt had 16 points. Callie Patsellis chipped in with eight while Corinne Eckstrom had eight points and eight rebounds.

Also for Tioga, Kari Walkley had two points, four steals and three assists while Sarah Wayson had five points. Ally Richter nabbed 10 boards in the game, too.

Tioga won the junior varsity game 48-26 as Hannah Manwearing had 17 and Natalie Burns had 14.

Tioga is at Odessa-Montour Friday.

Muncy 43, Sullivan County 31

The Griffins couldn't overcome a three-point first quarter in their loss to Muncy in girls' basketball action Tuesday.

Reilly Gavitt led Sullivan with 19 points while Darcy Sysock had six with Morgan Craft, Alyssa McDonald and Justine McCarty each scoring two.

Brianne Phillips and Courtney Ebner led Muncy with 15 points each.

Muncy won the junior varsity game 15-14 with Brianna Baumunk leading the Griffins with five points.

North Penn 47, Galeton 40

The Panthers outscored Galeton 25-14 in the first half to earn an NTL West win in girls' basketball action Tuesday.

McKayla Kshir led North Penn with 13 points while Carrinne Warren had 11 and Chelsea Wood had eight. Ashley Baker scored six, Jess Bowne had five, Tess Monks had three and Miranda Kline scored one.

Michelle Campbell led Galeton with 13 points.

North Penn won the junior varsity game.

The Panthers travel to Liberty Thursday.

Mansfield topped Elkland in girls' basketball action Tuesday.
