NEWFIELD, N.Y. - Tioga started off their season with a tough loss, falling to Newfield 49-45 in double overtime in IAC girl's basketball action Tuesday.

The Tigers led 11-5 after the first quarter and extended that lead to 25-15 at the half. The Trojans hung tough in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 31-22 heading into the fourth quarter.

Newfield then out scored Tioga 13-4 in the fourth quarter to tie the game up at 35 and send things into overtime.

Both teams had four points each in the first overtime period with the Trojans scoring 10 in the second overtime to get the win.

Sarah Beebe had 15 points to lead Tioga while Callie Patsellis added 12 points, three steals and two assists.

Hannah Manwaring added 11 points and eight boards while Emily Schweiger had three points and six rebounds. Danielle Barto and Maddie Tinney rounded out the Tioga scoring with two points each.

Megan Packala led Newfield with 12 points while Erica Carney added 11.

Newfield won the JV game 51-23. Ashley Tubbs led Tioga with 10.

The Tigers travel to Newark Valley on Friday.

Newfield 69, Tioga 30

TIOGA CENTER, N.Y. - The Tigers fell in their season opener at home in IAC boy's basketball action Tuesday.

Dustin Sherman and John Dougherty had nine points each to lead Tioga while Zach Baker added six points. Dan Graves scored four while Zach Worthington added two.

Zack Mosher led Newfield with 16 points while Chris Byrd (13 points), Kyle Bacorn-Royce (13) and Alex Fuller (12) were also in double figures.

Newfield won the JV game 51-37. Parker Hendershot had 14 points to lead Tioga.

Tioga hosts Newark Valley on Friday.
