Loyalsock runs past Troy
TROY - It was a barn burner at Alparon Park with Loyalsock running away from Troy 60-35.
Early in the fourth quarter Troy cut it to 41-35 but then the Lancers scored three straight times to pull out the win.
Loyalsock had 559 total yards to Troy's 277 but were also called for nine penalties for 96 yards.
Scoring began at the 9:51 mark of the first quarter as Loyalsock's Kyle Datres ran for a 20-yard scoring strike. He kicked the extra point to put the Lancers up 7-0 with 9:51 left in the first quarter.
Troy struck back as Josh McClaren kicked a 48 yard field with 5:23 left to cut it to 7-3.
Datres came back, running 39 yards for another touchdown. He added the extra point to make it 14-3 with 3:03 left in the first quarter.
The scoring wasn't done yet in the opening quarter as Troy's Jed Wright hit Justin Bradley on a 2-yard pass play for a touchdown. McClaren's kick was good and Troy cut it to 14-10 with 1:46 left in the first.
Datres struck back in the second, this time with his arm. He hit Phil Krizan on a 39 yard scoring strike just nine seconds into the second quarter. Datres kicked the extra point to extend the lead to 21-10.
Isaac Havens cut into the Lancer lead again, rushing one yard for a score with 5:31 left in the opening half. Troy cut it 21-18 on a two point conversion as Havens passed to Wright.
The Lancers came back with Datres scoring on a 39-yard run with 5:12 left. He added the extra point to put Loyalsock up 28-18.
Troy was able to get some of the points back as McClaren hit his second field goal, a 21 yarder, with 23 seconds left to cut it to 28-21.
Loyalsock wasn't content to keep its lead to one score, though. Datres found Mike Dougherty for a 58-yard pass play touchdown with three seconds to play in the half. Datres missed the kick but put Loyalsock up 34-21.
Troy rallied to start the third quarter as Wright hit Chris Westerfer for a 32-yard scoring strike with 5:43 left in the quarter, cutting the deficit to 34-28.
Loyalsock was able to stay one step ahead, though, as Omar Little scored on a 30-yard run with 2:48 left in the quarter. Datres added the point after to extend the lead back to 41-28.
Early in the fourth quarter Wright rushed for a 7-yard scoring strike to cut the lead to 41-35 after McClaren's extra point.
However, from that point on it was all Loyalsock.
Datres ran for a 54 yard scoring strike with 9:21 left to make it 48-35 after the extra point. Bobby Oler then added a 36 yard rushing touchdown followed by Dougherty scoring on an 11 yard touchdown run to make it a 60-35 final.
Wright led Troy on the ground with 110 yards on 20 carries while Nick Stephani added 44 yards on four touches.
Through the air Wright was 5-for-11 for 44 yards with one pick and the two scores.
Westerfer had the one 20 yard scoring catch while Darton Harwick had a catch for 11 yards.
Datres had 217 rushing yards on 14 carries for Loyalsock while also throwing for 203 yards on 7-for-10 passing.
