Mansfield edges Wyalusing
A late penalty kick by Jenny Loher pushed Mansfield past Wyalusing 3-2 in NTL girl's soccer action Monday.
The game was tied 2-2 with 18 seconds left when Wyalusing was called for a handball in the box. Mansfield's Loher lined up the kick and put it in to secure the win.
"Wyalusing started out strong and took the lead," Mansfield coach Corey Johnson said. "We tied it up in the second half, then pulled ahead, then they tied it up. It was a good, clean game."
Jackie Hillson had the first Tiger goal off a Madi Wise assist. On their second goal Molly Wood scored off a Hillson helper.
For Wyalusing Kasey DeVoir had the first goal off a Connor Dietz assist. Abby Borel scored the second goal off a Paighton Martin helper.
Mansfield out shot Wyalusing 26-6 and had more corner kicks 5-2.
McKenzie Millard had 12 saves in goal for the Rams while Kasey Powlison had three saves for Mansfield.
The Tigers won the JV game 4-1.
Mansfield will host Athens Wednesday.
Troy 2, NEB 1
LERAYSVILLE - Troy used a two goal first half to edge the Panthers in NTL girl's soccer action Monday.
Less than seven minutes into the game Louisa Shedden put Troy up 1-0. Then at the 20:44 mark Faith Ceeley scored off a Shedden assist to make it 2-0 Troy at the half.
In the second half Northeast's Monica Brown scored with 11 minutes left to play to cut the deficit to one goal but the Panthers couldn't complete the comeback.
"After a slow start I was pleased that our girls were able to keep Troy scoreless the second half," Northeast coach Larry Jennings said. "Troy had many more shots but our defense and keeper did a great job of keeping the ball out of the net."
Troy out shot NEB 19-4 and had more corner kicks 6-3.
Angelia Laudermilch made 14 saves for the Panthers while Jessica Fritsch made three stops for Troy.
Troy won the JV contest 1-0.
Athens 9, Williamson 0
The Wildcats had eight different girls score goals in their NTL win Monday.
Chandrica Dimon had two goals for Athens while Mackenzie Warner, Rachael Donnelly, Hailey Priester, Monica Dougherty, Mackenzie Hafer, Kirsten Colegrove and Taylor Conrad also scored goals.
Danielle Dougherty had two assists for the Wildcats while Colegrove, Dougherty and Ashley Manning also had helpers.
Athens out shot the Warriors 30-2 and had an edge in corner kicks 4-1.
Callie Cody had 16 saves for Williamson while Morgan Westbrook and Kiersten Horton had one stop each for Athens.
The Wildcats won the JV game 9-0.
Aubri Sumner, Kiki Riban, Jessica Stevens, Dimon, Analies Tillie, Joslyn Young, Manning, Julia Swarthout and Sarah Goble had goals for the Wildcats. Megan Wolf, Goble and Hannah Reid had assists.
Athens will travel to Mansfield on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. start.
