Mansfield field project progresses
Mansfield University's artificial turf project at Karl Van Norman Field reached a milestone Monday with the lettering of MANSFIELD in the east end zone.
The large red letters, outlined by white and set on a black background, drew the attention of all passersby's as work rapidly progressed on the project Tuesday morning.
In addition to the word Mansfield, workers were also sewing in yard markers for the project that's scheduled for completion in August.
Crews have already installed four light standards and new goal post.
The new Astroturf field will host its first intercollegiate contest when the Mansfield University Mountaineer field hockey team host Shippensburg University as part of Parents/Family Weekend at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Mountaineer football team will open the 2013 season later that evening with Mansfield first night football game since the university host the world's first night football game in 1892.
Kickoff for the nationally televised game against Princeton University is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
