Junior Onyema Utti led four Mountaineers in double-figure scoring as Mansfield downed Roberts Wesleyan 100-64 on the road in their season opener Tuesday night.

Utti racked up a game-high 18 points in the win for Mansfield (1-0, 0-0 PSAC).

The junior forward shot 80% (8-10) from the floor and hit both 3-point field goals attempted. He also grabbed six rebounds and recorded two assists.

Joe Bell chipped in 13 points hitting six-of-11 shots from the floor while adding a team-high eight rebounds.

Brad Williams and Kenny Johnson each added 11 points each while Chuck Harper and Cory Henneghan added nine apiece.

Senior Devin Grimes led the way for the Redhawks with 17 points and 11 rebounds to record the only double-double of the contest. Sophomore Mike Stone also hit double figures for Wesleyan with 11 points.

Mansfield punished the Redhawks from beyond the arc, hitting 10-of-16 3-pointers attempted for a red hot 63%.

Overall, the Mounties were 42-of-63 from the floor to shoot 67% on the night.

The Mountaineers came out aggressive as they quickly took a 12-1 lead just over four minutes into the game.

Mansfield was relentless as it climbed to a 19-point advantage with just over 10 minutes to play in the half.

Wesleyan threatened late in the half, going on a 9-0 run to close within 11 points, but a Bell layup as time expired game MU the 42-27 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Redhawks tried to shoot their way back into the game, but could never pull within 14 points.

Mansfield used its deep bench to grow its lead to as many as 38 points.

It marks the Mountie's sixth consecutive season-opener victory.

Head coach Rich Miller is now 7-1 in season openers.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 24 when they travel to Division I Buffalo for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
