Will Cabrera, a former assistant for the Bolivian National Team and Messiah College, has been named the full-time men's basketball assistant coach at Mansfield University.

The announcement was made today by Mountaineer head coach Rich Miller.

"I think we were very fortunate to hire Will Cabrera at Mansfield," said Miller. "He is a very energetic coach who will work hard, teach the game and continue to be able to recruit talented student-athletes into our program.

"Will has great recruiting connections that will allow us to broaden our recruiting region. He also does an outstanding job teaching players the game in workouts and in practice."

Cabrera comes to Mansfield after serving as an assistant coach at Messiah College for the past three seasons. He also served as the head coach at Hershey Christian High School for a season as well as being an assistant coach for the Pennsylvania Power AAU team and the Bolivian National Team. Cabrera has also served as a coach at the Hoop Group Elite basketball camps since 2009.

Last season Cabrera helped guide Messiah to a 20-7 overall record and Commonwealth Conference crown before advancing to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

A 2006 graduate of Messiah College with a degree in human development and family education, Cabrera played three years with the Falcons after transferring from the College of Notre Dame, a NAIA school in California. Notre Dame was ranked 8th in the nation and appeared in the NAIA National Championship Tournament during his freshman season.

A native of Paraguay, Cabrera has vast international experience. He spent much of his early life in Bolivia playing for numerous club teams including the UTEPSA Santa Cruz before coming to the United States.

Cabrera most recently played with the Schuylkill Firedogs of the Eastern Basketball Association.
